{"id":88873,"date":"2019-03-04T16:23:32","date_gmt":"2019-03-04T10:53:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=2084"},"modified":"2019-03-04T16:23:32","modified_gmt":"2019-03-04T10:53:32","slug":"hit-and-run-victims-to-get-higher-compensation-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/hit-and-run-victims-to-get-higher-compensation-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Hit-and-run victims to get higher compensation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The\nMaharashtra state government has decided to introduce a new policy on\ncompensation for victims of hit-and-run accidents.<\/li><li>Recently,\nthe Supreme Court has accepted court appointed committee\u2019s recommendation to\nincrease the minimum compensation for death in a hit-and-run case from the\nexisting Rs 25,000 to Rs 2 lakh. The court has directed the centre to frame a\nscheme of payment of compensation to ensure that the amount is paid to the\nright claimant till the law is amended.<\/li><li>The\nMaharashtra state government has recently introduced a new Road Safety Policy to\nreduce deaths resulting from road accidents in the state. The policy has been\nintroduced in accordance to the Brasilia Declaration on Road Safety of the\nWorld Health Organisation. The Brasilia Declaration on road Safety has tasked\nMaharashtra with bringing road fatalities down to 25% of the current 13,000\ndeaths reported annually.<\/li><li>The\nBrasilia Declaration was adopted at the second global high-level conference on\nroad safety held in Brazil in 2015.It lays down recommendations on\nstrengthening existing legislations, adopting sustainable transport and\nstrengthening post-crash response. It calls to reduce the deaths caused due to\ntraffic accidents by 50% by the year 2020. India is a signatory to Brasilia\ndeclaration.
