Based on the\nbasis of birth, the number for Bangladeshis fell from 3.7 million in 2001 to\n2.7 million, and based on the place of residence, it fell from 3.1 million to\n2.3 million in 2011.<\/li><li>Nepalese\nnumbers rose by around 30% between 2001 and 11. A striking feature is that it\nfell by 6% for males and grew by 60% for females.<\/li><li>The\nnumber of Sri Lankans remained roughly the same at around 150,000 on the basis\nof last residence and fell from over 200,000 to 183,000 on the basis of birth.<\/li><li>Further,\nthe migration data has indicated that a number of Indians have begun to return\nfrom foreign destinations like the US, Australia and the Gulf countries.<\/li><li>The\nnumber of people born in the US and enumerated in India grew ten times from\nroughly 3,000 in 2001 to 36,000 by 2011.
