The petitioners referred to the\nTwenty-sixth Constitution Amendment Act of 1971 which abolished the concept of\n\u2018rulership\u2019 by incorporating Article 366 (22) of the Constitution. It also\nabolished privy purses, special privileges and rights provided to erstwhile\nrulers of Indian states.<\/li><li>Recently,\nthe erstwhile Travancore Royal family acknowledged that the temple is a \u201cpublic\nproperty\u201d but argued in court that the family should be allowed to exercise\ncontrol over the temple management.<\/li><li>The\nmanagement of Sree Padmanabha Sway temple has been a contentious issue since\n2007 after a plea was filed in court alleging that the royal family is trying\nto make the temple its private property.<\/li><li>In 2011,\nthe Kerala High Court ordered takeover of the assets and management of the temple\nby the State under Article 295\nand Article 296 of the Constitution of India. It also directed creation of a\nDevosam board for management of the temple. &nbsp;<\/li><li>The High\nCourt\u2019s decision was challenged by the royal family in Supreme Court.
