The EC has\nobserved that DD News had given disproportionate airtime coverage to political\nparties and thus did not follow the principle of maintaining neutrality and a\nlevel playing field.<\/li><li>Level playing field means each party and each\ncandidate, irrespective of their size or popularity, is given the equal\nopportunity to put their case to voters. <\/li><li>Opposition parties had alleged that DD News, an\nofficial broadcaster, had given preferential treatment to the party in power\nand the channel has been used to promote and advertise election campaign for\nthe party. The oppositions had sought EC\u2019s intervention alleging that this was\na violation of the Model Code of Conduct.<\/li><li>Model code of Conduct (MCC) are the guidelines\nissued by the Election Commission of India for conduct of political parties and\ncandidates during elections.<\/li><li>Issue of advertisement at the cost of public\nmoney in the newspapers and other media and the misuse of official mass media\nduring the election period for partisan coverage of political news and\npublicity regarding achievements amounts to violation of MCC.<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Election Commission (EC) has asked DD News channel to ensure a level playing field for all political parties.
