{"id":89604,"date":"2019-04-16T17:06:37","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T11:36:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=3764"},"modified":"2019-04-16T17:06:37","modified_gmt":"2019-04-16T11:36:37","slug":"ec-curbs-campaigning-by-yogi-mayawati-maneka-and-azam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/ec-curbs-campaigning-by-yogi-mayawati-maneka-and-azam\/","title":{"rendered":"EC curbs campaigning by Yogi, Mayawati, Maneka and Azam"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Election Commission (EC) has imposed\nrestrictions on the campaigning of four senior politicians for violating the\nmodel code of conduct in Uttar Pradesh.<\/li><li>The restrictions on campaigning also prevent\nthem from giving interviews or making any comment on the electronic, print or\nsocial media in connection with the upcoming Lok Sabha election.<\/li><li>One of the politicians has had violated the\nprovisions of the model code as laid down in Para 3 and 4 of Part-1 of the\n\u2018General Conduct\u2019 section. Para 3 says that there should not be appeal to caste\nor communal feelings for securing votes. <\/li><li>According to provisions of para 4, all\nactivities which are \u201ccorrupt practices\u201d and offences under the Section 123 of\nthe Representation of the People Act &nbsp;, &nbsp;such as bribing of voters, intimidation of\nvoters, etc. amounts to violation of the model code of conduct.<\/li><li>In 2017, the Supreme Court had held that an\nappeal for votes during elections on the basis of religion, caste, race, community\nor language will amount to a corrupt practice and had called for\ndisqualification of the candidate.<\/li><li>Further, another senior politician has been\nbarred from political campaigning for his indecent comments on a woman candidate.\nIn 2013, the EC had issued an advisory stating that all the political parties\nand candidates had been told to refrain from any actions repugnant to the\nhonour and dignity of women.<\/li><li>Model code of Conduct (MCC) are the guidelines\nissued by the Election Commission of India for conduct of political parties and\ncandidates during elections. The MCC comes into force immediately on the\nannouncement of the election schedule by the commission.
