{"id":89744,"date":"2019-07-17T15:47:22","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T10:17:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=8160"},"modified":"2019-07-17T15:47:22","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T10:17:22","slug":"centre-assam-move-sc-for-sample-re-verification-of-nrc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/centre-assam-move-sc-for-sample-re-verification-of-nrc\/","title":{"rendered":"Centre, Assam move SC for sample re-verification of NRC"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Centre and the Assam government has moved to\nthe Supreme Court urging an extension of the July 31<sup>st<\/sup> 2019 deadline\nfor submission of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC).<\/li><li>The Centre has also sought a 20 % sample re-verification\nof names included in the final draft of the NRC in the districts bordering\nBangladesh and a 10% sample re-verification in the remaining districts.<\/li><li>The National Register of Citizens (NRC) is a\nregister which contains the name of all citizens of India residing in Assam. It\nwas first prepared in 1951.<\/li><li>Currently, the NRC is being updated in Assam to\naddress the issue of illegal migrants. It seeks to identify illegal migrants in\nAssam who had entered the state on or after 25th March 1971.<\/li><li>The update is being carried out under the\nCitizenship Act, 1955, and according to rules framed in the Assam Accord, 1985.<\/li><li>The draft Assam NRC was published on July 30,\n2018 in which the names of 2.89 crore of the 3.29 crore people were included.<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Centre and the Assam government has moved to the Supreme Court urging an extension of the July 31st 2019 deadline for submission of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC).
