The bill seeks to amend the Right to\nInformation (RTI) Act, 2005 <\/li><li>RTI Act 2005 sets the term of the Chief\nInformation Commissioner (CICs) and Information Commissioners (ICs) at the centre\nand state levels at five years (or until the age of 65, whichever is earlier). <\/li><li>The amendment bill 2019 proposes that the\nappointment will be for such term as may be prescribed by the Central\nGovernment.<\/li><li>RTI ACT 2005 states that salaries, allowances\nand other terms of service of the Chief Information Commissioner shall be the\nsame as that of the Chief Election Commissioner, and those of an Information\nCommissioner shall be the same as that of an Election Commissioner.<\/li><li>At the state level, CIC and IC salary shall be\nequivalent to election commissioner and Chief Secretary respectively. <\/li><li>The amendment proposes that the salaries,\nallowances and other terms of service of the Chief Information Commissioner and\nthe Information Commissioners at centre and state level should be prescribed by\nthe Central Government.<\/li><li>&nbsp;The RTI Act\n2005 provides that Public Authorities are required to make disclosures on\nvarious aspects of their structure and functioning. This includes: a) disclosure\non their organisation, functions, and structure, b) powers and duties of its\nofficers and employees, and c) financial information.<\/li><li>&nbsp;The aim\nof the Act is to promote transparency and accountability in the working of\nPublic Authorities.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/li><li>&nbsp;Under the\nAct, \u2018Public Authorities\u2019 include bodies of self-government established under\nthe Constitution, or under any law or government notification.<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The government has introduced Right to Information (Amendment) Bill, 2019.
