{"id":89774,"date":"2019-07-31T17:31:16","date_gmt":"2019-07-31T12:01:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=8669"},"modified":"2019-07-31T17:31:16","modified_gmt":"2019-07-31T12:01:16","slug":"bills-against-lynching-honour-killing-introduced-in-rajasthan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/bills-against-lynching-honour-killing-introduced-in-rajasthan\/","title":{"rendered":"Bills against lynching, honour killing introduced in Rajasthan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The\nRajasthan government has introduced Rajasthan Protection from Lynching Bill,\n2019, and the Rajasthan Prohibition of Interference with the Freedom of\nMatrimonial Alliances in the Name of Honour and Tradition Bill, 2019.<\/li><li>Rajasthan\nProtection from Lynching Bill, 2019 seeks to protect the constitutional rights\nof vulnerable persons and punish the acts of lynching through trial in the\ndesignated courts, besides rehabilitating the victims and their families.<\/li><li>The\nBill provides for life imprisonment and fine up to \u20b95 lakh for the offence of\nlynching. It also provides for appointment of a nodal officer of the rank of\nInspector-General of Police to prevent lynchings and establishment of relief\ncamps in safe zones for the victims.<\/li><li>The\nbill defines lynching as an act of violence, whether spontaneous or planned, by\na mob on the grounds of religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth, language,\ndietary practices, sexual orientation, political affiliation and ethnicity.<\/li><li>The\nSupreme Court in 2018 in the case of Tehseen S. Poonawalla vs. Union of India had\nrecommended the central government to enact a legislation to create a separate\noffence for lynching<\/li><li>The\nRajasthan Prohibition of Interference with the Freedom of Matrimonial Alliances\nin the Name of Honour and Tradition Bill, 2019 provides for death penalty or\nlife sentence and fine up to \u20b95 lakh for killing a couple or either of them on\nthe basis that their marriage had dishonoured or brought disrepute to the\ncaste, community or family<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Rajasthan government has introduced Rajasthan Protection from Lynching Bill, 2019, and the Rajasthan Prohibition of Interference with the Freedom of Matrimonial Alliances in the Name of Honour and Tradition Bill, 2019.
