{"id":89789,"date":"2019-08-06T14:54:05","date_gmt":"2019-08-06T09:24:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=8854"},"modified":"2019-08-06T14:54:05","modified_gmt":"2019-08-06T09:24:05","slug":"bills-against-lynching-honour-killing-passed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/bills-against-lynching-honour-killing-passed\/","title":{"rendered":"Bills against lynching, honour killing passed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Rajasthan Assembly has passed Rajasthan Protection\nfrom Lynching Bill, 2019, and the Rajasthan Prohibition of Interference with\nthe Freedom of Matrimonial Alliances in the Name of Honour and Tradition Bill,\n2019.<\/li><li>Rajasthan Protection from Lynching Bill, 2019 defines\nlynching as an act of violence, whether spontaneous or planned, by a mob on the\ngrounds of religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth, language, dietary\npractices, sexual orientation, political affiliation and ethnicity.<\/li><li>It provides for life imprisonment and a fine of\nup to Rs 5 lakh to convicts in cases of mob lynching involving the victim\u2019s\ndeath.<\/li><li>It also provides for appointment of a nodal\nofficer of the rank of Inspector-General of Police to prevent lynchings and\nestablishment of relief camps in safe zones for the victims.<\/li><li>The Supreme Court in 2018 in the case of Tehseen\nS. Poonawalla vs. Union of India had recommended the central government to\nenact a legislation to create a separate offence for lynching<\/li><li>The Rajasthan Prohibition of Interference with\nthe Freedom of Matrimonial Alliances in the Name of Honour and Tradition Bill,\n2019 provides for death penalty or life sentence and fine up to \u20b95 lakh for\nkilling a couple or either of them in the name of family honour.<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Rajasthan Assembly has passed Rajasthan Protection from Lynching Bill, 2019, and the Rajasthan Prohibition of Interference with the Freedom of Matrimonial Alliances in the Name of Honour and Tradition Bill, 2019.
