{"id":89816,"date":"2019-08-27T17:39:35","date_gmt":"2019-08-27T12:09:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=9562"},"modified":"2019-08-27T17:39:35","modified_gmt":"2019-08-27T12:09:35","slug":"plea-in-supreme-court-seeks-online-rti-portals-in-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/plea-in-supreme-court-seeks-online-rti-portals-in-states\/","title":{"rendered":"Plea in Supreme Court seeks online RTI portals in States"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Supreme Court has sought responses from the\nCentre and several states on a plea seeking direction to state governments to\nset up online RTI portals. <\/li><li>The plea has said that the Centre has\nestablished an online RTI portal in which any Indian citizen, including NRIs,\ncan apply for information under the RTI Act with the desired ministry or\ndepartment<\/li><li>It also noted that the Centre in December 2013\nhad requested state governments to explore the feasibility of implementing\nonline RTI in their respective state. However, only Maharashtra and Delhi have\nestablished portals for that so far. <\/li><li>The online RTI portals would enable people to\nelectronically apply for the required information instead of filing\napplications physically. The present system of physical RTI applications makes\nit difficult, inconvenient, and costly and leads to long delays, especially for\nNRIs who seeks information under RTI. <\/li><li>Right to Information Act, 2005 provides for\ntimely disclosure of information by citizens from both central and State Public\nAuthorities.
