{"id":89859,"date":"2019-10-15T16:46:08","date_gmt":"2019-10-15T11:16:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=10941"},"modified":"2019-10-15T16:46:08","modified_gmt":"2019-10-15T11:16:08","slug":"rti-portal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/rti-portal\/","title":{"rendered":"RTI Portal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News<\/strong>: The Supreme\nCourt has asked the Centre and state governments to file reply on a plea\nseeking direction to establish Right to Information (RTI) web portals in all\nstates to enable citizens, especially those living abroad, to file RTI\napplications online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The plea has said that the Centre has\nestablished an online RTI portal in which any Indian citizen, including NRIs,\ncan apply for information under the RTI Act with the desired ministry or\ndepartment<\/li><li>It also noted that the Centre in December 2013\nhad requested state governments to explore the feasibility of implementing\nonline RTI in their respective state. However, only Maharashtra and Delhi have\nestablished portals for that so far.<\/li><li>The online RTI portals would enable people to\nelectronically apply for the required information instead of filing\napplications physically. The present system of physical RTI applications makes\nit difficult, inconvenient, and costly and leads to long delays, especially for\nNRIs who seeks information under RTI.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional\nInformation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Right to Information\nAct, 2005:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>RTI Act provides for timely disclosure of information by citizens from both central and State Public Authorities.
