{"id":89998,"date":"2019-03-16T16:40:32","date_gmt":"2019-03-16T11:10:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=2654"},"modified":"2019-03-16T16:40:32","modified_gmt":"2019-03-16T11:10:32","slug":"alternate-farming-models-being-promoted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/alternate-farming-models-being-promoted\/","title":{"rendered":"Alternate farming models being promoted"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>At a workshop organised by World Bank, the\nRajasthan government highlighted the scope and benefit of using solar pumps in agriculture.<\/li><li>The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has\nformulated \u2018Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (KUSUM) Scheme. The\nscheme aims to promote the use of solar power among farmers. <\/li><li>In February 2019, the Cabinet Committee on\nEconomic Affairs (CCEA) had approved the launch of the scheme. The scheme was announced\nin the Union Budget of the year 2018-19.<\/li><li>The main objective of the scheme is to promote financial\nand water security to farmers. The scheme has 3 components: A) 10,000 megawatts\n(MW) of decentralised ground mounted grid-connected renewable power plants, B) installation\nof 17.50 lakh standalone solar powered agriculture pumps and C) solarisation of\n10 lakh grid-connected solar powered agriculture pumps<\/li><li>Component A envisages setting up of renewable\npower plants of capacity 500 KW to 2 MW by individual farmers, cooperatives,\npanchayats, or farmer producer organisations (FPO) on their barren or\ncultivable lands.<\/li><li>Power generated will be purchased by DISCOMs. This\nwould ensure income to rural land owners.<\/li><li>Under component B, centre and state governments would\nprovide financial assistance to farmers to install standalone solar pumps of\ncapacity up to 7.5 HP.<\/li><li>Under component C, individual farmers will be provided\nfinancial assistance by central and state govts. to solarise pumps of capacity\nup to 7.5 HP. Framers will be allowed to sell surplus energy to the DISCOMs. This\nwould ensure additional income to the farmers.<\/li><li>The expected benefits of the scheme are: a) water\nsecurity to farmers, b) additional income for farmers by selling surplus energy\nto DISCOMs, c) Reduce DISCOM\u2019s subsidy burden to agriculture sector, d)\ndecrease C02 emissions by reducing diesel use, e) help states achieve Renewable\nPurchase obligation (RPO) targets and f) reduce diesel consumption and thus result\nin savings in the foreign exchange due to reduction of import of crude oil and g)\ngenerate employment.<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At a workshop organised by World Bank, the Rajasthan government highlighted the scope and benefit of using solar pumps in agriculture.
