{"id":90011,"date":"2019-04-16T17:03:43","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T11:33:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=3755"},"modified":"2019-04-16T17:03:43","modified_gmt":"2019-04-16T11:33:43","slug":"10-quota-cabinet-nod-for-funds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/10-quota-cabinet-nod-for-funds\/","title":{"rendered":"10% quota: Cabinet nod for funds"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Union Cabinet has approved a budget of Rs.4315.15\ncrore to create the additional seats in 158 central educational institutions to\nimplement 10% EWS quota.<\/li><li>In January 2019, the government had passed 103<sup>rd<\/sup>\nConstitutional Amendment Act. It provides for 10% reservation in government\njobs and educational institutions for the economically weaker section in the\nunreserved category. It also provides for reservation in private unaided\neducational institutions. <\/li><li>The quota is over and above the existing\nreservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Class.\nIt breaches the 50% reservation limit set by Supreme Court.<\/li><li>The 10% quota has been subjected to widespread\ndebate and been criticised on grounds such as a) completely violates the\nConstitutional norm that economic criterion cannot be the only basis of\nreservation, b) violative of the equality principle enshrined in Article 14 of\nthe Constitution as it excludes OBCs, SCs and STs from the scope of economic reservation\nc) breaches 50% reservation cap and d) provides reservation in private\neducational institutions which has been clearly barred by the SC in previous\njudgements.<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Union Cabinet has approved a budget of Rs.4315.15 crore to create the additional seats in 158 central educational institutions to implement 10% EWS quota.
