  1. NITI Aayog has proposed that only electric\nvehicles should be sold after 2030. It has moved a cabinet note proposing that the\nroad transport and highways ministry should prepare a framework to phase out\nthe sale of diesel and petrol vehicles by 2030.<\/li>
  2. The ministry has also been asked to pilot an\ne-highways programme. In electric highways, overhead electric cable is laid to\nallow trucks to operate as electric vehicles when on the electrified road and\nas regular hybrid vehicles at other times.<\/li>
  3. Further, NITI Aayog has proposed radio cab\nservices, such as Ola and Uber, should go completely electric by 2030.<\/li>
  4. Earlier, NITI Aayog had suggested that only\nelectric-powered three-wheelers and two-wheelers with engine capacity of up to\n150 cc should be sold from 2025. <\/li>
  5. According to the Niti Aayog, as transport\nremains the most demanding sector for oil, about 100% electric vehicle sale by\n2030 may reduce India\u2019s import dependence by a substantial margin.<\/li>
  6. Recently, the Union Cabinet approved the\nproposal for implementation of \u2018Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric\nVehicles in India Phase II (FAME India Phase II)\u2019. The scheme will be\nimplemented over the period of three years with effect from 1st April 2019. <\/li>
  7. The main objectives of the scheme are a)\nencourage faster adoption of Electric and hybrid vehicle by way of offering\nupfront Incentive on purchase of Electric vehicles and b) establish necessary\ncharging Infrastructure for electric vehicles.<\/li>
  8. The FAME II is an expanded version of FAME I,\nlaunched in 2015 which aimed to support hybrid\/electric vehicles market development\nand Manufacturing ecosystem. FAME scheme is under Ministry of Heavy Industries\n& Public Enterprises.<\/li>
  9. The FAME scheme is part of the National Electric\nMobility Mission Plan (NEMMP). It aims to achieve national fuel security by\npromoting hybrid and electric vehicles in the country.<\/li><\/ol>\n
