{"id":90096,"date":"2019-09-06T12:05:49","date_gmt":"2019-09-06T06:35:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=9889"},"modified":"2019-09-06T12:05:49","modified_gmt":"2019-09-06T06:35:49","slug":"institution-of-eminence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/institution-of-eminence\/","title":{"rendered":"Institution of Eminence"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong> The Ministry of Human Resource and Development has awarded\nthe status of Institute of Eminence to five public institutions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Institutions awarded with status of Institute of Eminence:<\/strong> <ul><li>IIT-Madras,<\/li><li>IIT-Kharagpur,<\/li><li>Delhi University,<\/li><li>Benares Hindu University<\/li><li>University of Hyderabad<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Institution of\nEminence (IoE) Scheme<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>First announced in 2016 Budget speech, the Institution of Eminence scheme is a scheme of <strong>Ministry of Human Resource Development<\/strong> pertaining to higher education institutions (HES) in India<\/li><li><strong>Aim<\/strong>: To develop 20 world-class teaching and research institutions<\/li><li><strong>Objectives<\/strong>:<ul><li>To bring higher educational institutions selected as IoEs in top 500 of world ranking in the next 10 years and in top 100 eventually overtime<\/li><li>To provide world class teaching and research facilities to Indian students within the country and enhance general level of education.<\/li><li>To pay special attention to teaching and research in unique and emerging areas of knowledge\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Regulatory framework<\/strong>: It has been provided through <ul><li>UGC (Declaration of Government Institutions as Institutions of Eminence) Guidelines, 2017 for public Institutions and <\/li><li>UGC (Institutions of Eminence Deemed to be Universities) Regulations, 2017 for private Institutions.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key Benefits of Institutions\nof Eminence<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><\/li><li>Government Institutions to get additional funding up to 1000 Cr.<\/li><li>Complete academic, administrative and financial autonomy<\/li><li>Exemption from government approvals for academic collaborations with foreign HES (in top 500)<\/li><li>Freedom to hire personnel from industry as faculty, and recruit faculty from outside India (25% limit of its faculty strength)<\/li><li>Freedom to have own transparent merit based system for admission of students.<\/li><li>Will not be subjected to UGC Inspections<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Current Status of scheme:<\/strong> Earlier 6\ninstitutions were selected as IoEs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Public Category<\/strong><ul><li>Indian Institute of Sciencee (IISc), Bangalore<\/li><li>IIT Delhi<\/li><li>IIT Mumbai<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Private Category<\/strong><ul><li>Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal<\/li><li>Birla Institute of Technology&amp;
