{"id":90133,"date":"2019-10-01T17:59:35","date_gmt":"2019-10-01T12:29:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=10569"},"modified":"2019-10-01T17:59:35","modified_gmt":"2019-10-01T12:29:35","slug":"framework-to-sustain-indias-100-odf-status","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/framework-to-sustain-indias-100-odf-status\/","title":{"rendered":"Framework to sustain India\u2019s \u2018100% ODF status\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News<\/strong>: Jal Shakti\nMinistry\u2019s Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) has launched a\n10-year national rural sanitation strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aim:<\/strong> The strategy\nseeks to sustain India\u2019s 100% Open Defecation Free (ODF) status claimed by the Union\ngovernment, on September 27, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Duration:<\/strong> The\nframework will be in place from 2019 to 2029. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Focus Areas:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It will ensure that people sustain their usage\nof toilets. <\/li><li>It will also focus on proper implementation of\nsolid and liquid waste management (SLWM) \u2014 plastic waste, organic waste, grey\nwater, and faecal sludge in rural areas.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Implementation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A district-level training management unit (TMU)\nwill be set up. It will provide oversight and support to gram panchayats (GPs)\nso that they ensure the operation and maintenance of sanitation infrastructure.\n<\/li><li>The GPs are also supposed to conduct rapid\nassessment of water and sanitation gaps.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Financing:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Government funding is the primary source of\nfinancing.<\/li><li>Further, there will be alternative self-financing\nby gradual leveraging of community resources in the form of tariffs for ODF\nplus activities.<\/li><li>60:40 financing model as being followed till now\nin Swachh Bharat.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional\nInformation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Swachh Bharat Abhiyan<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It is a cleanliness campaign initiated by Govt.\nof India in 2014. It seeks to achieve a Clean India by 2019, as a tribute to\nthe 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.<\/li><li>It has two sub-missions. Swachh Bharat Mission\n(Gramin) and Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban):<\/li><li>Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) aims to improve\nthe levels of cleanliness in rural areas through Solid and Liquid Waste\nManagement activities and making villages Open Defecation Free (ODF) and clean.\nIt is implemented by Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Jal Shakti\nMinistry<\/li><li>Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) aims at\nelimination of open defecation, conversion of unsanitary toilets to pour flush\ntoilets, eradication of manual scavenging, municipal solid waste management and\nbringing about a behavioural change in people regarding healthy sanitation\npractices.
