This was informed at a meeting of the group\nof Governors on Jal Shakti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Jal Jeevan\nMission:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Aim:<\/strong> It seeks to provide safe and adequate drinking water\n through individual household tap connections (HarGharJal) to all rural\n households by <strong>2024.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Implementing Agency:<\/strong> It will be implemented by <strong>Department of Drinking Water and\n Sanitation<\/strong> under the Jal Shakti Ministry.<\/li><li><strong>Finance:<\/strong> The project is estimated to cost Rs 3.50 lakh crore,\n with the Union government and states sharing the expenses 50:50.<\/li><li><strong>Features:<\/strong><\/li><li>It will focus on integrated demand and\nsupply-side management of water at the local level. <\/li><li>It will implement source sustainability measures\nrecharge and reuse through grey water management, water conservation, rain\nwater harvesting.<\/li><li>It will converge with other Central and State\nGovernment Schemes to achieve its objectives of sustainable water supply\nmanagement across India.<\/li><li>It seeks to generate maximum community\nparticipation in the form of &#8216;jan andolan&#8217; to achieve the target of functional\nhousehold tap connection by 2024.<\/li><li><strong>Need:<\/strong> According to the Jal Shakti Ministry, only 18% of\n India\u2019s rural households have access to piped water. Thus to improve\n coverage of households with piped safe drinking water the mission has been\n initiated.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional\nInformation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Group of Governors:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The group of Governors on Jal Shakti was constituted by President Ram Nath Kovind in August 2019.<\/li><li>Four other groups on various socioeconomic issues has also been constituted.<ul><li>Group on tribal affairs headed by the Governor of Jharkhand.<\/li><li>Group on farmer welfare and agriculture Headed by Governor of Gujarat<\/li><li>Group on Education headed by Governor of Uttar Pradesh<\/li><li>Group on Governance headed by Governor of West Bengal<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>The report of these groups will be deliberated in the 5th conference of the governors to be held in November 2019.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: As part of the Jal Jeevan Mission, Rural households will get two to three hours of piped water supply and 14.6 crore such households will be provided piped water connection in the next five years.
