{"id":90417,"date":"2020-01-16T16:18:46","date_gmt":"2020-01-16T10:48:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=13002"},"modified":"2020-01-16T16:18:46","modified_gmt":"2020-01-16T10:48:46","slug":"it-rules-to-separate-social-media-firms-other-online-platforms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/it-rules-to-separate-social-media-firms-other-online-platforms\/","title":{"rendered":"IT rules to separate social media firms, other online platforms"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong>Government has said that Draft Information Technology [Intermediaries Guidelines (Amendment) Rules] 2018 are under process of revision in the wake of instances of violence and lynchings affiliated with content posted on social media platforms.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Internet Intermediary:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Internet intermediary refers to a company that facilitates the use of the Internet.Such companies include internet service providers(ISPs), search engines and social media platforms.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Features of the Draft IT Intermediaries Rules 2018:<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Incorporation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The online intermediaries with more than 50 lakh users will be required to have a registered entity in India under the Companies Act.<\/li><li>They should also appoint a nodal person of contact for 24X7 coordination with law enforcement agencies and ensure compliance with their orders.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reporting:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>They should also provide information or assistance within 72 hours when asked by any government agency for reasons of State security, cyber security, investigation, detection, prosecution or prevention of offenses.<\/li><li>The intermediary should also report cybersecurity incidents with the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rules:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The social media intermediaries should publish rules, privacy policy to stop users from engaging in online material which is paedophilic, pornographic, hateful, racially and ethnically objectionable.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Grievance redressal:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The intermediary should publish the name of the Grievance Officer and his\/her contact details on its website.<\/li><li>It should also lay down a mechanism by which it redresses the concerns of users who suffer as a result of access or usage of computer resources by any person in violation of rules.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Technology:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The intermediary should also deploy technology based automated tools for identifying and removing or disabling public access to unlawful information or contents.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News:Government has said that Draft Information Technology [Intermediaries Guidelines (Amendment) Rules] 2018 are under process of revision in the wake of instances of violence and lynchings affiliated with content posted on social media platforms.
