{"id":90430,"date":"2020-01-25T15:18:32","date_gmt":"2020-01-25T09:48:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=13201"},"modified":"2020-01-25T15:18:32","modified_gmt":"2020-01-25T09:48:32","slug":"stop-expansion-work-on-commercial-karwar-port-hc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/stop-expansion-work-on-commercial-karwar-port-hc\/","title":{"rendered":"Stop expansion work on commercial Karwar port: HC"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong>Recently,the Karnataka High Court has directed the State government to stop all the developmental activities being undertaken at Karwar port under the Sagarmala project.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Karwar port:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Karwar port is situated at the Southern side of the Kali River in the state of Karnataka.<\/li><li>This port has been developed as an all weather port in the Karwar bay.<\/li><li>The port, which is operated by the Government of Karnataka services the hinterland of northern Karnataka, Goa and southern Maharashtra.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Sagarmala project:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Sagarmala project was approved by the Union Cabinet in 2015.The initiative aims to promote Port-led development along India\u2019s 7500 km long coastline.<\/li><li>The Union Ministry of Shipping has been appointed as the nodal ministry for this project.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Objectives of the project:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Reducing cost of transporting domestic cargo through optimizing modal mix<\/li><li>Lowering logistics cost of bulk commodities by locating future industrial capacities near the coast<\/li><li>Improving export competitiveness by developing port proximate discrete manufacturing clusters<\/li><li>Optimizing time\/cost of EXIM container movement.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Components of the project:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Port Modernization &amp; New Port Development:\u00a0<\/strong>De-bottlenecking and capacity expansion of existing ports and development of new greenfield ports<\/li><li><strong>Port Connectivity Enhancement:\u00a0<\/strong>Enhancing the connectivity of the ports to the hinterland, optimizing cost and time of cargo movement through multi-modal logistics solutions including domestic waterways (inland water transport and coastal shipping)<\/li><li><strong>Port-linked Industrialization:\u00a0<\/strong>Developing port-proximate industrial clusters and Coastal Economic Zones to reduce logistics cost and time of EXIM and domestic cargo<\/li><li><strong>Coastal Community Development:\u00a0<\/strong>Promoting sustainable development of coastal communities through skill development &amp; livelihood generation activities, fisheries development, coastal tourism etc.<\/li><li><strong>Coastal Shipping &amp; Inland Waterways Transport:\u00a0<\/strong><span>Impetus to move<\/span> cargo through the sustainable and environment-friendly coastal and inland waterways mode.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News:Recently,the Karnataka High Court has directed the State government to stop all the developmental activities being undertaken at Karwar port under the Sagarmala project.
