{"id":92238,"date":"2021-03-06T15:30:09","date_gmt":"2021-03-06T10:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=92238"},"modified":"2021-03-06T15:30:09","modified_gmt":"2021-03-06T10:00:09","slug":"government-released-rating-mechanism-for-national-highways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/government-released-rating-mechanism-for-national-highways\/","title":{"rendered":"Government released &#8220;Rating mechanism for National Highways&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Road Transport &amp; Highways(MoRTH) released the first-ever rating mechanism for National Highways.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the rating mechanism for National Highways:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conducted by: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Ministry of Road Transport &amp; Highways(MoRTH).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objective: <\/strong>The fundamental objective of highway rating is \u201cMinimum time with maximum safety in a stress-free environment\u201d for the highway users. Apart from that, it will also improve the government\u2019s accountability towards road users.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Parameters: <\/strong>Each toll plaza of the highway is judged based on three major criteria. They are,\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Highway Efficiency(45%): <\/strong>This will consist of an operating speed of traffic, traffic volume, delay at toll plazas among others.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Highway Safety(35%): <\/strong>This will look at accidents on the highways per year, ambulance response time, road clearance after an accident, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>User Friendly(20%): <\/strong>This will look at the number of footpaths, junctions, adequate structures, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note: <\/strong>There are <strong>no such criteria that have been developed across the world <\/strong>to evaluate the performance of highways from the user perspective.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How many National Highways have been covered in the rating mechanism?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The rating has been done for all 219 national highway stretches across the country. They cover a distance of 18,668 km.<\/li>\n<li>Four corridors are selected for rating i.e. Agra-Mumbai(1,084 km), Pune-Vijayawada(856 km), Mumbai-Kolkata(1,927 km), Bangalore-Kanyakumari (655 km).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Best and worst Highway according to<\/strong> the\u00a0<strong>rating mechanism<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The best is the 102-km stretch of the six-lane Ahmedabad-Vadodara section of National Highway (NH)-48.<\/li>\n<li>The worst stretch is the 45-km Indore-Dewas section of NH-3, which connects Agra to Mumbai.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Golden Quadrilateral:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Golden Quadrilateral(GQ) is a national highway network. It is connecting most of the major industrial, agricultural and cultural centres of India.<\/li>\n<li>It<strong> forms a quadrilateral connecting<\/strong> the four major metro cities of India, viz., Delhi (north), Kolkata (east), Mumbai (west) and Chennai (south).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Managed by: <\/strong>National Highways Authority of India(NHAI) under the Ministry of Road, Transport, and Highways.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Significance<\/strong>: It is the largest highway project in India and the fifth-longest in the world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleseDetailm.aspx?PRID=1701743\"><strong>PIB<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
