{"id":95957,"date":"2021-03-17T18:48:55","date_gmt":"2021-03-17T13:18:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=95957"},"modified":"2021-03-18T12:02:17","modified_gmt":"2021-03-18T06:32:17","slug":"older-iims-lag-behind-in-enforcing-quota-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/older-iims-lag-behind-in-enforcing-quota-rules\/","title":{"rendered":"Older IIMs lag behind in enforcing &#8220;Quota rules&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to an RTI, older Indian Institutes of Management(IIMs) are lagging behind the newer IIMs in enforcing the quota rule.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Data on IIMs enforcing Quota Rule:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>In older IIMs, less than 10% of the faculty are from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and the Other Backward Classes communities.<\/li>\n<li>However, In some newer Indian Institutes of Management(IIMs) some progress is made in hiring faculty members.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Institute wise Data:<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><strong>Older Institutes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>IIM-Kolkata<\/strong>: It has no SC or ST faculty member, but it does have two OBC faculty members. It makes up less than 3% of its total strength of 77.<\/li>\n<li><strong>IIM-Bengaluru<\/strong>: It has 6% of its 103 faculty members from the reserved categories: 3 SC, 1 ST, and 2 OBC community members.<\/li>\n<li><strong>IIM-Ahmedabad: <\/strong>It has said that it does not maintain category-wise information for faculty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Newer Institutes:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Institute at Shillong<\/strong> has more than 30% of faculty members from the reserved categories.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Institute of Raipur <\/strong>has 25% and <strong>Institute of Jammu<\/strong> more than 22% from the reserved categories.<\/li>\n<li><strong>However, <\/strong>among newer IIMs, <strong>IIM-Nagpur<\/strong>\u00a0does not have a single faculty member from any of the reserved categories.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers\u2019 Cadre) Act,2019:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Purpose: <\/strong>The act provides for the reservation of posts in appointments of Central educational institutions by direct recruitment of persons belonging to\n<ul>\n<li>Scheduled Castes (SCs) (15%)<\/li>\n<li>Scheduled Tribes (STs) (7.5%)<\/li>\n<li>Socially and Educationally Backward Classes(SEBCs) (27%) and<\/li>\n<li>Economically Weaker Sections (EWSs) (10%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Coverage: <\/strong>The act will apply to \u2018central educational institutions\u2019 which include\n<ul>\n<li>universities set up by Acts of Parliament<\/li>\n<li>institutions deemed to be a university<\/li>\n<li>institutions of national importance and<\/li>\n<li>institutions receiving aid from the central government.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Exception: <\/strong>The act excludes\n<ul>\n<li>certain institutions of excellence, research institutions, and institutions of national and strategic importance.<\/li>\n<li>It also excludes minority education institutions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/epaper.thehindu.com\/Home\/MShareArticle?OrgId=G0F8CPS2S.1&amp;imageview=0\"><strong>The Hindu<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
