It addresses the cyclone risks in the country.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Secondly,<\/strong> its<strong> aim <\/strong>is to undertake suitable structural and non-structural measures <strong>to mitigate the effects of cyclones<\/strong> in the coastal states and UTs of India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thirdly,<\/strong> its<strong> objectives <\/strong>are:\n<ul>\n<li>Improving early warning dissemination systems<\/li>\n<li>Enhancing the capacity of local communities to respond to disasters<\/li>\n<li>Improving access to emergency shelter, evacuation, and protection against wind storms, flooding, and storm surge in high areas<\/li>\n<li>Strengthening Disaster Risk Management(DRM) capacity at central, state, and local levels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Implementation: <\/strong>National Disaster Management Authority(NDMA) in coordination with participating State Governments and the National Institute for Disaster Management (NIDM).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Coverage: <\/strong>The Project has identified 13 cyclone-prone States and Union Territories(UTs) with varying levels of vulnerability. These States\/UT have further been classified into two categories:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Category I: <\/strong>Higher vulnerability States namely Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Category II: <\/strong>Lower vulnerability States i.e. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, Pondicherry, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu, Andaman, and the Nicobar Islands.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleseDetail.aspx?PRID=1704837\"><strong>PIB<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
