These funds will be used to strengthen the Government\u2019s efforts in managing the impact of COVID-19 in the country.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About MPLADs Scheme:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme(MPLADS) is a Central Sector Scheme. It was launched in 1993.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nodal Ministry: <\/strong>Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim<\/strong>: The aim is to provide funds to MPs to execute certain developmental projects in their constituencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note: <\/strong>States have their own version of this scheme with varying amounts per MLA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Features of MPLAD Scheme:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Under the scheme, an MP receives Rs. 5 crores<\/strong> per annum to identify and fund developmental projects.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The funds released under the scheme are non-lapsable<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>Non-Lapsable funds should be spent within the current financial year. The next year cannot carry forward these funds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>The role of the MP is recommendatory in nature.\u00a0 <\/strong>Local authorities carry out the implementation of the project.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The focus of the scheme is on the creation of durable community assets<\/strong> like roads, school buildings, etc. Further, recommendations for non-durable assets can be made only under limited circumstances.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Elected Members of Rajya Sabha <\/strong>can recommend works in the state from where they have been elected.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nominated Members <\/strong>of both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha can recommend works anywhere in the country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/funds-under-mplads-for-2019-20-cleared-fm-sitharaman\/article34082490.ece\"><strong>The Hindu<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the news?
