Especially under the US\u2019s Countering America\u2019s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA).<\/p>\n<h5><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>About CAATSA:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Countering America&#8217;s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act(CAATSA) is a US federal law enacted in 2017. It imposed sanctions on Iran, North Korea, and Russia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Purpose: <\/strong>The CAATSA Act empowers the US President to impose sanctions against certain countries. The imposition of sanctions take place on countries that engage in a significant transaction with the Russian defence and intelligence sectors.<\/li>\n<li>The \u201cultimate goal&#8221; of CAATSA \u201cis to prevent<strong> revenue<\/strong>\u00a0to the Russian Government.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Imposition of type of sanctions under the CAATSA act:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Firstly, prohibition on loans to the sanctioned country<\/li>\n<li>Secondly, prohibition of Export-Import bank assistance for exports to sanctioned persons<\/li>\n<li>Thirdly, prohibition on procurement by the US Government to procure goods or services from the sanctioned persons<\/li>\n<li>And lastly, denial of visas to persons closely associated with the sanctioned persons<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Exemptions: <\/strong>The US President could waive off the sanctions if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Country is taking steps to reduce its dealings in terms of Russian weapons purchases or<\/li>\n<li>A Country has better cooperation with the US on other security matters that are critical to the US strategic interests or<\/li>\n<li>If the Russian weapons to the country do not significantly increase the risk to United States defence systems and operational capabilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/international\/us-senator-asks-lloyd-austin-to-raise-concerns-about-eroding-democratic-values-during-visit-to-india\/article34100407.ece\"><strong>The Hindu<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
