{"id":99288,"date":"2021-04-02T18:06:20","date_gmt":"2021-04-02T12:36:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=99288"},"modified":"2021-04-05T12:23:24","modified_gmt":"2021-04-05T06:53:24","slug":"record-11-crore-worked-under-mgnregs-in-2020-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/record-11-crore-worked-under-mgnregs-in-2020-21\/","title":{"rendered":"Record 11 Crore Worked Under &#8220;MGNREGS&#8221; in 2020-21"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Government data, over 11 crore people worked under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme(MGNREGS) during the financial year 2020-21.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Key Facts Related to MGNREG Scheme during 2020-21:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>During the financial year 2020-21, around 11 crore people worked under the MGNREGS.<\/li>\n<li>This is the first time since the launch of the scheme in 2006-07 that the MGNREGS\u00a0 numbers crossed the 11-crore mark in a year.<\/li>\n<li>Further, the 11 crore mark is also higher by about 41.75% in 2019-20 when about 7.88 crores worked.<\/li>\n<li>The expenditure on MGNREGS has also increased. In 2020-21, the total expenditure was 62.31% higher than in 2019-20.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note: <\/strong>As part of the economic package during the Covid-19 pandemic, the government announced additional funding of Rs 40,000 crore for the MGNREGS over and above the budgetary allocation of\u00a0 2020-21.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Number of Days People Worked under MGNREGS:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2020-21, the number of households that completed 100-day employment reached an all-time high of 68.58 lakh, an increase of 68.91% from 40.60 lakh in 2019-20.<\/li>\n<li>The average days of employment provided per household too went up marginally from 48.4 days in 2019-20 to 51.51 days in 2020-21.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>MGNREG Scheme:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/mgnregs-has-raised-welfare-brought-down-inequality-says-study\/\"><strong>MGNREGS<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is one of the largest work guarantee programmes in the world.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Launched in: <\/strong>The scheme was initially launched in the 200 most backward rural districts of the country in 2006-07. The scheme was later extended to an additional 130 districts during 2007-08 and to the entire country from 2008-09 onward.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Under the scheme, <\/strong>every rural household whose adult member volunteers to do unskilled manual work is entitled to get at least 100 days of wage employment in a financial year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Implementation: <\/strong>Ministry of Rural Development (MRD), Government of India in association with state governments monitors the implementation of the scheme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Key Features of the scheme:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Demand-driven scheme: <\/strong>Worker to be hired when he demands and not when the Government wants it.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/centre-signs-pact-to-digitise-all-gram-panchayats\/\">Gram Panchayat<\/a> <\/strong>is mandated to provide employment within 15 days of work application failing which worker is entitled to unemployment allowance<\/li>\n<li><strong>Payment of wages <\/strong>within 15 days of competition of work failing which worker is entitled to delay compensation of 0.05%\/ day of wages earned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/india\/coronavirus-pandemic-sent-migrants-home-record-11-crore-turned-to-rural-job-scheme-7255071\/\"><strong>Indian Express<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
