Q2. LISA project is associated with

a) Study of ocean currents

b) AIDS test

c) Study of gravitational waves

d) Study of earthquake waves.

Ans – [C]. LISA, the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna project is a project to study the gravitational waves.

Q4. Consider the following statements about a thermos flask:

1. It is a practical device in which the heat flowing into or out of the system by conduction, convection or radiation is used as much as possible

2. It consists of a double walled glass vessel

3. The heat transfer by convection is minimised by silvering the surfaces and the radiation is minimised by evacuating the space between the walls

Which if the statements given above is/are true?

a) 1 and 2 only

b) 2 and 3 only

c) 1 and 3 only

d) 1, 2 and 3

Ans -[A]. Statement 3 is wrong. The heat transfer by radiation is minimised by silvering the surfaces and ctransfer of heat by onduction is minimised by evacuation space between the walls.

Q5. Consider the following statements regarding Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV):

1. It is a vehicle which on taking the satellite into the space, comes back to the earth and can be used for future launches

2. India is the first country to test Reusable Launch Vehicle

Capillary action ensures that a certain height of water level is maintained in the plants. As the water is lost through transpiration, capillary action ensures that the lost water is compensated by pulling it from roots

Still the water is received through capillary action. If you go into the details then the very phenomenon of capillary action is based on the pressure difference. If there is no fluctuation in pressure, there can no capillary action.

For the first question.. water also rises from plants because of the pressure difference caused due to transpiration. I think this is an even compelling argument then the one given. Please explain.
