It is related with India’s failure of not being able to get support from any of the military blocks during cold war period especially in case of India China war of 1962. Though Neharu was a proponent of socialist principles but due to his emphasis on nonalignment he was not able to garner the support of USSR.
The situation changed only during Indira Gandhi’s reign when there was perceptible shift and tilt towards USSR that was against the premises of nonalignment. Due to this shift India was able to secure USSR support in Bangladesh liberation war. -
