The Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) is a Naga nationalist group which is paramilitary in nature. It operates mainly in northeast Indian states and, with minor activities in Northwest Myanmar.
The main goal of the organisation is to establish a sovereign state, “Nagalim(Greater Nagaland)“,which would comprise of all the areas inhabited by the Naga people; in Northeast India consisting of all areas of neighbouring Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and some portions Northwest Myanmar, which it considers to be the rightful homeland of the Nagas.
Nagaland (NSCN) was formed on 31 January 1980 opposing the Shillong Accord signed by the then Naga National Council (NNC) with the Government of India.
On 30 April 1988, the NSCN split into two factions; the NSCN-K , and the NSCN-IM, The split was accompanied by a spate of violence and clashes between the factions.
