Clarification by UPSC: Essay Topic, UPSC Civil Services Exam 2016- ‘If development is not engendered, it is endangered’


Dear Friends,

Candidates who appeared UPSC Civil Services Mains Exam Essay Paper, 2016 were in confusion regarding one Essay Topic- ‘If development is not engendered, it is endangered‘.

Dr. Shashi Tharoor sought a response from UPSC regarding the same. UPSC has replied to Dr. Shashi Tharoor clarifying that different acceptable interpretations would be considered by evaluators of UPSC mains-2016 Essay Paper.

What Really Happened?

One of the Essay topics in UPSC CSE-2016 Essay Test was ‘If development is not engendered, it is endangered’. This had created confusion in the minds of candidates regarding the meaning of engendered. Some students took the literal meaning of the word endangered, some took otherwise.

Different acceptable interpretations would now be considered by UPSC 🙂
