I think UPSC will atleast make language simple, if not their is always hindi side to look upon and get conceptual clarity. So think we should not worry about these things
@admin … kindly update the explanations too … helps immensely during revision
you will you will…
strength is life, fear is death.
Hope this helps us to get thru…
thanks bro….i think its high time for me to again go through books….your conceptual clarity is highly appreciative.
Bhai… I hv read Suspended (1931)>>>Continued(1932)>>> Suspended(1933)>>>Finally Called Off(1934)… These are the terms and phrases used In Bipin Chandra…
JHA sahab …the language of gandhi irwin pact incorporate “discontinuation” now would you consider that to be paused or called off.
Wht abt Muslim league in Q4 ? and Indian members in Council Q2 ?
It paused… not called off…. It was called off in 1934 after it lost steam…
yes, sorry i misread your statement.
Ekdum stupid sa question hain. The Pact did call off the CDM, not merely suspend it. The HSRA was mad at Gandhi for having betrayed the Nationalist cause by calling it off, nobody expected Gandhi would restart the CDM 2 years later.
I have a collection of many newspapers from 1909 to 1944, I feel they reflect the mood of those times better than the most scholarly book can.
I also have same doubt. These simple words are shaking our concepts.
Bilkul bhai… Maine v yahi kiya hai…

Supporting the call of boycott itself means that hindu sabha and league boycotted the commission..
The recommendations of Simon commission after 3rd RTC was accepted by some, but at the time of appointment,it was opposed unanimously.
read it carefully it says “those who decided to SUPPORT the congress call of boycott-liberals of hindu mahasabha and majority faction of league under jinnah”
I think it was suspended not called off. CDM was resumed after 2nd RTC.
I think Q3 Statement 4 should be “suspended”. Called off implies bringing the event to a close, so statement 4 is wrong.
Was the Rowlatt Act was opposed by all members of Central Legislative Council? I guess it was opposed only by non official Indian members.. Please clarify
thnk u ,but i know i m in deep trouble
but forget this
BFL for exam 🙂
I second you on this.
majority faction of league under jinnah decided to boycott the commission– aisa spectrum mai likha hai

Regarding Q2
Ans should be D
4 🙂
q3- cdm was withdrawl in gandi irwin pact………….then why it is wrong???plz tellll
Humm…..Gandhi ji ko pakka pata tha ke dubara se karna hi hoga…so suspended…
Waise calling off karne per kya dubara se start nhi ho sakta tha……:)
Aapka kahna sahi hai according to the word used.
Gandhi first suspended the CDM with thoughts that if his demand didn’t meet, CDM would be resumed.
But you know the word “Suspension” has implicit meaning of resuming the things again.
So, in that sense, Gandhi ji was 100% assured of not fulfilling his demand.
Very clever…:)
yes yes..
usi tym khallass ho jata to 2 page kam padhne padte modern history ke. but gandhi ji full form me the..
2 page aur badh gaye padhne ke liye
Whiiiii – Calling off ka matlab hota poora khalaas !!!
GANDHI -IRWIN PACT ..
every agreement was behalf of the congress.
after second RTC ,gandhi ji decided to resume CDM
Ans should be D
Indian members of Central leg assembly !!! not all the members
Easy but tricky
Don’t be sad – you will get all correct in prelims 🙂
Mini-Wikipedia 🙂
Suspension and calling off main difference hai
CDM was not called off, but suspended
But answer me yeh option incorrect bata rha hai….
Really, suspension of CDM and calling off CDM are different. I too got bowled in this question. But, anyway it was a good one and A BIG LESSON learnt – that CDM was suspended and not called off. Need to be careful with words 🙂
Gandhiji on behalf of Congress, suspended CDM
So, the statement is not wrong because Gandhiji calling off satyagraha
Bapu sehat ke liyeee …..
Yes, answer should be D
As statement 1 is incorrect, solution should not include any wrong statement
Best possible option is D – hence it should be correct
You are correct – Muslim league’s one group supported Simon Commission. Isliye I was not confident in marking 4th statement correct. Hence got it wrong

rg8..
answer should be D..
ONLY indian member
Hummm…..I was also thinking of…..Thanks.
No.
I think its a typo. Rowlett act was opposed by all INDIAN member of central legislative council.
My dear brothers and sisters…kindly meri query ka reply karo….
No,not at all.CDM was withdrawn somewhere around 1934 after the Poona Pact, when congress emphasised on constructive work, upliftement of Harijans.
I think Simon commission was unanimously opposed due to its all white character, and later All party conference was held accepting Lord Irvin’s challenge of a unanimous consitutional advancement, later as Nehru report.
Thanks for in-depth gyan ….)
thnx ..
spectrum & g.k. today me itna hi diya hai.. 🙂 vhi pta hai mujhe
may be it has mentioned in bipan chandra..
its too minute a detail
Temporary withdrawl as a provision of pact, further resumed after the failure of the talks in 2nd RTC.
Hummm…..Bapuji called off Satyagrah….not Congress …:(
At central legislative assembly, were all members Indian? If yes, then fine.
If no, then did Britishers also oppose the Rowlett Act?
Kripya to the point answer de in min words. Thanks in advance.
why is question 3 statement 4 wrong
didnt the pact result in the calling off of cdm ?
also the unionists party in punjab
4/5 ( according to forum ias ,should go with most appropriate options ?)
Q4- Muslim league had two sessions– One was led by Jinnah at Calcutta where he opposed the Commission. Another was held at Lahore that was led by Muhammad Shafi, where he supported the Government. So, all parties except the Shafi group of Muslim league and a Justice Party at Madras, were against the Simon Commission ..

Red Shirt movement, byname of Khudai Khitmatgar (Persian: “Servants of God”), in support of the Indian National Congress, an action started by Abdul Ghaffar Khan of the North-West Frontier Province of India in 1930. Ghaffar Khan was a Pashtun who greatly admired Mahatma Gandhi and his nonviolent principles and saw support for the Congress as a way of pressing his grievances against the British frontier regime. He was called the Frontier Gandhi. His followers were pledged to nonviolence, and they derived their popular title from the red colour of their shirts.
