Isn’t NHRC a Quasi-Judical body?
-
That is wrong. The authority of settlement is a necessary criteria only for JUDICIAL bodies, not quasi-judicial ones. The test of Quasi-Judicial is about objectively determining facts and draw conclusions from them so as to provide the basis of an official action.

Some examples of quasi-judicial bodies in India are – National Human Rights Commission, State Human Rights Commission, Central Information Commission, State Information Commission, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Competition Commission of India, Appellate Tribunal for Electricity, Railway Claims Tribunal, Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, and Intellectual Property Appellate Tribunal.

Bhokal bhai,
Trick ye thi ki constitutional bodies ka tenure and salary wagerah President /Governor decide karta hai except CAG – jiska Parliament decide karti hai
For most of the statutory bodies, tenure, salary and service conditions are decided by central government / state government.
NHRC – central govt
SHRC – state govt
UPSC – President
SPSC – Governor
Hope it helpsThis is just a crude way to remember – there may be some exceptions to this crude rule.
But for constitutional bodies, Exception to the rule is only CAG 🙂
For statutory bodies, you can find out if there is any !!! -

Mai GS2 me quasi judicial bodies wale question me NHRC likh ke aaya tha..:/,isiliye nahi mile kya number?
But i think its quasi judicial, and it has the power of civil court. However,it cannot punish, but can provide monetary benefits. -
Given answer of 4th question is right???
-
No they would not be judicial bodies as they are exercising function which is judicial in character but not like court exercising judicial power in the constitutional sense. This concept also helps us differenciate between tribunal (which is judicial in character) and other quasi judicial bodies.
Finance Commission works as a arbitrator(settler) , means to distribute taxes among union and state. Therefore it is called a quasi judicial body.
NHRC does not have any such role. Please refer to pv rajamannar comment on why finance commission is to be called a quasi judicial body. The constitution does not mention it to be a quasi judicial body. However, its role does. Its an inference by experts that it’s a quasi judicial body. And i agree with it.
As far as NHRC is concerned, going by the above inferences doesn’t qualify to be a quasi judicial body. However, if it does, that solves our headache.

Well, quasi judicial bodies have power of imposing law on administrative agencies and authority of settlement, which clearly the NHRC does not have. The power of civil court which it has is put to use to call for information or report from the central and state govt. Or any subordinate authority. THIS power however does not make it a quasi judicial body.
-
Ya even the act mentions that the proceeding shall be considered judicial in nature. It also mentions that NHRC has powers of civil court.
