  • As US changes tack, India redraws UNSC bid: The US has unexpectedly opposed India’s bid for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council. Despite this, India plans to go ahead and present our candidature on this issue in the General Assembly. (129 out of the 193 members have to vote “Yes” for adding a new Permanent member to the UNSC).
  • Russian tie-up to boost ISRO’s semicryogenic launcher plan: ISRO is currently working on the SCLV (Semi-Cryogenic Launch Vehicle), which will be its new-generation third rocket programme. It has roped in the Russian Federal Space Agency to help, and  an MoU has been signed. The SCLV will beef us the capabilities of the current launch vehicles, doubling the lifting power of the GSLV and tripling the lifting power of the PSLV.
