Here is what you should know from the Marksheet pdf released by UPSC

Mains Score analysis of Recommended Candidates:-

  • 43% of the recommended candidates have secured between 700-749 in Mains. So , with the cut off around 680, most people who made it to the final list have secured 10% marks above the cut off.
  • The General cut off has gone very high among those who made it to the list excluding PH category
  • 23 people have scored below 700 in mains but all of them have secured above 193 in Interview thereby making it to the list. ( So you  know that even if you are at the border, the Interview can save you )
  • And 24 candidates have scored above 800 out of which one person has scored a very low score of 83 in Interview which drastically reduced her rank in the list. A case of bad luck.

Interview Score analysis of the Recommended Candidates:-

  • 55% of the students have scored between 160-189 in the Personality test Or Interview.
  • About 115 students have secured above 200 in the personality Test.
  • Like last year interview scores have not crossed 220 marks this year too thus making it the highest awarded to any candidate. Two people have been given 220.
  • Of the recommended candidates only one person has scored below 100 in the interview test.

 Comparing the Cut offs :-

The Prelims Cut off has gone much lower this time, and is expected to go down with General Studies becoming the sole criteria for awarding of marks. Also, the gap between General & OBS cut off has been minimal.

Interestingly, SC Candidates had no advantage , as the cut off for OBC and SC candidates for Mains ( and being eligible for the Interview ) was same.

The final cut off has been much higher compared to last style, though the paper was tougher, thanks to liberal marking in Paper like Sociology ( and even Pub Ad ).

The Conclusion:-

Mains marks has been restored to its older position of having good weightage in the final score. Unlike last year, where the Interview score literally made up 33% of the total marks ( e.g. candidates who had 600 in Mains and 200 in Interview ). However, the Interview score will still be instrumental in getting you a services such as the IAS, IPS or the state cadre of your choice.
