Thanks for saying that. I would really appreciate if you have anything exclusively for Ecology and Environment. I am in a sort of limbo there.

What is the source for ” the best and most probable questions” if we may ask? 😛
As ORNOB would say, the nation wants to know ? 😛

I was looking for an explanation for answer being D. I would have gone for D as well.
Nonetheless, I confirmed it from the 11th class NCERT.
    Thanks for replying.

1.) At high latitude, evaporation is low and in an addition to that the melting of ice brings fresh water diluting the sea water. (Latitude)

2.) Also, in equatorial and coastal regions, salinity is low owing to the fact that precipitation is greater than evaporation. (TEMPERATURE)

3.) Ocean current itself depends on the salinity and temperature (Density).

Eliminating latitude, temperature, and ocean currents, the only possible answer is “tides”.

according to u , which could be the answer ? But for that the answer is d. Because salinity is influenced mainly by temperature , precipitation , ocean currents and influx of fresh water bodies . Tides simply means the periodic rise and fall of ocean water level and how it could affect the ocean salinity ? temp. makes water body evaporate and the salts settle down at the bottom .eg. dead sea. If no influx of fresh waters then the water body experiences salinification. eg. Caspian sea( for not having the inlet of fresh waters) and black sea and Baltic sea (for having the inlet of freshwater and hence both of which has less salt content ) .precipitation infuses fresh waters and hence influences the salt content. Precipitation, temperature are varied according to the latitudes and so latitude is the factor. Mixing of cold and hot water currents make the salt content moderate as cold water current has less salt content and the other one is the opposite to this.

How is D the answer to Question number 4 ?
    could you please explain?

Oh yes, it does particularly when the issue is still relevant to the present context. Many questions related to biotechnology are repeated with a little refashioning here and there.

I thought it was in recent and felt upset as i am taking the best and most probable questions from current affairs for prelims . Thanks for informing me . But is it worthy to be asked again in the following years as UPSC never asks the old (very old current affairs )affairs related questions . Anyway thanks for informing me.
