In anthropology optional, there are two papers (Paper – I & II). Each paper consists of 250 marks.

5. Archaeological Anthropology and Linguistic Anthropology
Paper-II
1. Indian Pre-History and Indus Valley Civilization
2. Indian Social System – Varna System, Caste System, Indian Village and Jajmani System, Concept
of Purushartha, Varnashram and the impact of Buddhism, Jainism, Islam and Christianity on
Indian Society.
3. Growth of Indian Anthropology – Indian anthropologists contributions and their concepts.
4. Indian Population, Languages and Bio-genetic variations.
5. Other Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Minorities – their problems and development
programs.
6. Scheduled Tribes – concept and their problems: land alienation, indebtedness, poverty,
education, health, forests and tribes and rehabilitation.
7. History of tribal administration, tribal policies, plans and programmes of tribal development,
and the role of N.G.O’s in tribal development.
8. Role of anthropology in tribal and rural development and tribal movements.
9. Contributions of anthropology to the understanding of regionalism, communalism, and ethnic
and political movements.
