CSE 2021: Plan / Strategy / Daily Routine

Hello 2021 aspirants. I thought it would be nice if we can share what we are doing and intend to do with one another here.

This could be a thread for discussing everything prep for 2021.

No one method fits all but to see the plans and progress made by fellow aspirants might help with the finer details of preparation and also keep one on track.

@CoronaForever I think you can follow that and use one book to cover whatever seems to be not covered. People generally use Spectrum for modern history as it is small compared to other books and cover most of the part.

thanks

@Vinay12 @IamThat

if you are going to be regular on forum then kindly create an thread for upcoming open test info. I often miss open tests because don't get the information to register beforehand.

since the first post is pinned at top, you can edit them time to time, and open test dates won't get lost in discussions.

Additionally Excel sheets to maintain mock scores among members.

Most of the people cover it from:

1) Newspaper (primary source)- any one out of The Hindu or Indian Express, I will recommend the latter.

2) One monthly magazine for supplementing the above- Vision IAS is the most preferred one.

Rest, after reading the articles you can makes notes either digitally or in hardcopy. When you opt for softcopy, it becomes more manageable compared to the other. Make broad heads or narrow heads after going through GS II and GS III syllabus and Prelims and Mains PYQs and paste the notes under the respective heads. Do these things without fail from now on and allot some time daily for the backlog so that they may be covered too in 2-3 months. The same time and energy which you put in making notes should be given to revision as well.

These two sources are the bare minimum and will help you get through. But if you want to go beyond and cover from some other beautiful sources too, you may go for RSTV, Yojana, DowntoEarth, BBC, Google, The Diplomat and ORF. But I guess paucity of time precludes going after these sources. So, wise decision will be to stick to the primary sources only.

I would suggest one newspaper and a monthly magazine like visionias or anyother for these months may 2020 - may 2021. U can read paper daily, do a daily ca supplementing the newspaper and also see other websites for reading list ( other newspapers important editorials) so that u ll get an overall picture of an issue that week.

For notes, I'll suggest make note of only examples(ngo, shg, some success stories in districts - ethics), case studies in the newspaper that u ll not find in any monthly magazine. If u r keen to make notes, do it like issue based from editorials( just like answer with points on challenges and way fwd) . Otherwise monthly magazine will cover most topics that u have read in paper.  follow one magazine and also try to do extra reading of items in it like maps, rivers related items.

Spend 1.5 hrs for paper and no more. if u r gng to make notes, make sure u can use it for mains ( issues or extra points) or prelims additional info. There's no hard n fast rule. U can do what works for u. These are just suggestions.

I remember someone asked about daily quizzes a long time back. I just started using GoalTide IAS daily quiz. I think it's really great because they have negative marking so it makes it seem even more UPSC-esque. I'm hoping this would improve my guessing skills since that's where I messed up last time.
