Looks like love for planning is just one of the many attributes you share with Knope :P good luck with it, though :)

And don’t mind me. That was so reflexive. I guess pressuring people into sharing on this thread is what I am all about now 😂

Hello gentle peepul,

Today I felt like a frying samosa in a kadhai with electricity going on and off perpetually like my motivation!  43°C : The reason why I regret not being at my ancestral place. Khair!

First half of the day went well. Finished the two decided GS portions. Second half of the day went bleh. Had to race against time to wind up PSIR and CA notes in the before dinner. I didn't do the AWP though. Reason? I slept for good 3 hours in the afternoon. Lena toh 20 min ka nap tha, par neend toh neend hai. :p Khair! PSIR paper 1A has ended for good! Jaan chhooti! Paper 2A starts now. I have to be regular with the AWP. That's something I tend to skip if my day goes a bit haywire. The days have to be better managed with some alterations to stick to what's planned!

The ultimate lesson that I learnt in the past few days has been that it's very essential to own your journey. Good or bad. It's yours. Live every moment of it. Laugh. Cry. Rant. Crib. Do whatever! But live every moment of it. Walk at your own pace with all you have with one step a day.

Ab main soch raha hu thoda Daler Mehndi sun liya jaaye. :P

Hello hai ji,

Quite a gloomy and sappy day. Had to really force myself to sit and not miss out on stuff. But then, could wind up the targets with AWP! Quite a good feeling despite the manhusiyat. Lekin ab daily CAs rehte hain, jo karne mei mujhe maut aa rahi hai. :P

Khair! The lesson is to be patient and keep going despite the crests and troughs.

Hello hai ji,

What a Saffola Lite day! Could wind up all targets by early evening. For someone, who was lost in the chaos until early this year with inexplicable fear, insurmountable self doubts and severe anxiety, these small steps mean A LOT! Ended up relishing a giant Blue Lays packet and cooking some pasta for dinner while Mussarat Nazir played in the background with coincidently strong words, "chale toh katt hee jayega safar aahista, aahista."

Its never too late to pick up the scattered pieces and start afresh! :)

Weekly Round Up

A very unproductive week. First two days wasted on Covishield. Next Two days in sadness and the rest in sub-optimal productivity. The only good thing was that I stayed on track. I did not go into a sadness spiral or I did not take the path of least resistance. Whatever time I studied, I did what I planned at the beginning of the week.

Next 6 days, I'll be alone at home. Historically, this has meant a period of low productivity & binge eating. But I intend to prove history wrong. Next Sunday & Monday are reserved for my cousin's wedding. So, will try to be as productive as I can. Help me God.

Today was a chill day. Not much done. Not even what I had planned. It is okay. I slept in the noon. And spend some time with my mother. It's okay. I'll try to cover that up in the next 6 days.

Next 6 days plan is simple. Do not touch anything other than the following:

  • Ethics Classes & handouts
  • Environment Booklets; Study & Ankify
  • PSIR IIA Notes
  • Anki Reviews
  • Essay-I & II; lectures & handouts

On the side, I am listening to fear and loathing in new Jerusalem on the walks. One episode done, 5 more to go. Also began reading Yascha Mounk's 2018 book. 1 chapter done, everything else to be done.

--

I am going for a walk now & will listen to the podcast mentioned earlier.

--

At night, I intend to complete watching 'Well Done Abba' which has been@whatonly 's recommendation. Also, I would love to hear what are some of your favourite movies that you can recommend me to watch?@Villanelle @thesleepyhead @Rashmirathi @SergioRamos @DeekshitaP @ozymandias & @MaeveWiley & others active on this thread.

I'll try to watch one movie a week.

True. I am in love with Sleep. Heideggar Sahab ne Arendt ji ke liye khat me ye baat kahi thi. I am just replacing the word love with sleep. xD

A chill Sunday !

Did PYQs of complex analysis only.

Isi ke saath complex analysis ki Samapti hui 😌

Also I have a doubt in one question, it would be great if any mathsie could help me to resolve.

Here in the steps where I marked red, what mistake have I committed? Why can’t I use |sinmz|<1 ? That limit (expression in box) should become 0 but I am getting pi instead :/

Kal raat maine Annabelle dekhi thi aur ab ye dekhne ke baad aagyi mujhe neend ab! :p

P.S. This comes from a person who was shit scared of Maths in school.

Oh good god, what a ridiculously bleh day! Although I am still at item no 2 rn but here's how the day has been so far: Ended up wasting the first half because cousins had come over. By the time they left and I sat back with books, it was time for lunch. And post lunch, even though I went back to my desk and kinda read through the topics, my focus and concentration was as ridiculous as my Physics in class 12th. Pathetic! 😂

Be that as it may, I might go back to these topics sometime later kyunki pata nahi kya hee toh padha maine aaj! Khair! Will just wind up 2 and Daily stuff now. No lags there!

Some days aren't just meant to be yours even though you have clearly set out plans. It's fine! Koi nai! Kal dekhenge. I might read P B Shelley tonight for some perspective! :)

Quite khush today since all the targets were completed well before time. Didn't take any pre lunch, post lunch or evening nap, given that I can fall asleep anytime and anywhere. This change is quite revolutionary, I must say. :p

Now, I shall probably continue with P B Shelley with some Sufi music on.

I think for us it’s been mostly about being in the groove. 3-4 hours padhai + newspaper before lunch and 3-4 hours padhai after lunch before tea takes care of Optional and GS portion. Then 6 onwards it’s chill - bas CA, and thoda random answer writing. This should be okay jab tak solely prelims prep ni hai.

Breaking down syllabus helps big time. More than anything. You can just ignore everything else and dive into the task at hand.

Oh trust me, I feel very embarrassed to talk about what "I" do/did with even a tinge of sense of achievement. I'd rather prefer to listen and learn. :P

@nerdfighter @PP1204 I'd obv second what@Villanelle said! But here are few learnings at my end :

1. Give yourself incentives if your week goes good. And no guilt pangs if things don't go your way. Jaise kal main butter chicken aur naan khaunga. Simple pleasures of life. :p

2. Don't let bad days spillover the good days. Jo reh gaya, koi baat nahi. Wapis toh aana hai hee. Just keep moving ahead.

3. Break down the subject. Keema bana do! Micro topic-ing.

4. In my case, if my first half of the day goes productive, then I know din sahi jaa raha hai. And if it goes haywire, phir toh bhagwaan maalik hai uss din ka.

Baaki toh I think I have learnt a lot by being on this platform. Aur woh kya lines hain Robert Frost Uncle ki :

Whose woods these are I think I know.

His house is in the village though;

He will not see me stopping here

To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer

To stop without a farmhouse near

Between the woods and frozen lake

The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake

To ask if there is some mistake.

The only other sound’s the sweep

Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep,

And miles to go before I sleep.

Chill. If you are quantifying with no. of hours of study. Leave that.

May be follow any test series schedule. prepare and write test. This would ensure atleast you move an inch if not a big step. Studying without targets often leads to this. Study multiple subjects so that even if you able to cover even subject properly, you would feel good. If 5:00 pm is deadline leave that subject and cover other subject.

Niche wala para of yours is basically emotional shit. 90% of people from DU/JNU are like this only. Unhe kahin job bhi nhi milega. LOL. Childhood dream L**a La**un... No one cares about your dream or anyone else so just cribbing if you want to.

Parents economically sound hai toh chill krro why to take a job. May be jinke taunt krr rhe hai unke nhi honge. Be honest to yourself. Parents ko tumahre personal success se proud hona pade, I believe kisi ke parents itne selfish nhi hote. CHILL KRRO. Society has made IAS as trophy of reco, nothing else. If you get it, you get it, does not matter you deserve it or not. Esp in this random exam whose keys not even toppers have.

@MaeveWiley , October 10 will be your day. I recall all of our conversations. Especially the first one and the one after last prelims. Thank you for reaching out to me when I needed it the most. I will forever be grateful.  This time, you will be sure after prelims. I know it in my heart. Make sure you make the prelims victory count. Onwards and upwards, my friend.

@SergioRamos,remember your comment on the interview thread. You know which one I’m talking about. I feel you have a very sound understanding of the exam and it’s just a matter of time till you actually follow through on the things you know you can do, to your satisfaction. Keep working on it. You’ve got this.

@Sherkhan1428 , you were a vibe when you were active, my man. I’ve missed reading your comments. If you read this, I hope you’re in a good place mentally.

@Reticent @thepolicydreamer, @Alexandersupertramp,thank you for reaching out to me when I was in the dumps. I hope you are all keeping well and your families are safe. Keep working on yourselves and your goals. Keep your head above the water, and remember to breathe. Do the little things right, my friends. It’s easy to forget the progress that you have made. Don’t make that mistake.

@thesleepyhead @chamomile @Loxodonta  I’ve interacted very little with you all, but all of your personal messages came to me at a time when I really needed someone to give me a hand. I found support from you all when I was shattered inside and was trying to put on a brave face. Thank you for reaching out.

@nerdfighter ,@sjerngal Keep working on fighting the pain, you guys. It doesn’t necessarily get any easier, but we shall refuse to give up and keep soldiering on. We owe that to ourselves.

@Villanelle I cannot count the number of times I have openly laughed seeing your comments. And yesterday, you topped it with that wholesome comment about your mother. I am a little intimidated by you and the width of your reading to be honest. There’s so much swagger about you, and that makes you one of the pseudonyms from this platform that I most want to get to know in person. Thank you for bringing joy to my life in whatever way you could.

@LetsGetThisBread , as a wise person once said, today may be bed but tomorrow will be butter. There’s so much life in all of your comments, and that has such a ripple effect. Even if you feel you aren’t making progress on a certain day, always remember to be grateful that you have invariably brought a smile to at least one stranger’s face every single day.

@ssver2 and@Joeyisthebest , I’ll see you idiots on the TG group soon enough. :P Optional isn’t truly optional without you two.

I’m sure I’ve missed so many people who have had an impact on my life through this platform over the past year. The above list has been impacted by recency bias of course. So, I hope you can forgive me if I’ve missed you.

The beauty of this platform is that it is built on the kindness of strangers. There’s so little in the world that is like that. I’ve said this before and l’ll say it again. I see infinite beauty in you all.

And with that, I take your leave. Thank you for playing the significant part that you have played in my story. I’ve been more open with you than I have been to most of my closest friends. Thank you for being the light that I was so desperate to find.

I hope to see you all again on the other side. I hope to have stories and experiences to tell you, and I look forward to the little glimpse of your wonderful lives that you may choose to share with me. When you feel down, whatever the reason, know that somewhere in the World, a Patootie wishes you well and cares for you deeply.

Patootie out.

Oho thank you for those words! There's nothing more valuable than a human spreading compassion through his/her/their words and actions. Your old posts were always a source of comfort when I was initially lurking around here with no sense of my whereabouts in this prep. More power and all the best!

See you soon hai ji. :D

Just adding to what has been said above by@sjerngal and others; the most thankless aspect of this prep is the non recognition of the toil and hard work that you put in sans any passing result. Probably that's got to do with how we are conditioned in our education system and society at large. And the gruelling cycle of UPSC just adds to it.

The realisation at the end of it all is, that each person will have her/his/their own journey with their share of crests and troughs and not everyone will understand it. And it's completely fine! You move on. :P

Also, this Jammu weather might just explode my brain very soon. :/

Just missed this raunaq in the morning. All the best you lovely gentle peepul. This last lap, irrespective of whatever the future holds for us should make us proud when we look back in hindsight. Give it all you have and we shall do it. Best wishes hai ji sabko! And extra chunk of the wishes to the ones awaiting results. :P

If you guys seriously want to relax and feel the ultimate bliss, just have a plate of chole bhature in dinner, and in dessert, have 2 gulab jamuns(ask for warm ones), and sleep without an alarm. The next morning you will wake up with the greatest feeling EVER!

Nobody asked this, but IDK why I just felt like telling! :P

I, whole heartedly endorse this therapy. Aur gulab jamun ke sath vanilla ice cream le lo toh it's pure heaven! :P Oho!
