ONLY 85 DAYS LEFT FOR MAINS. TOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH TO STUDY.. ..
Good luck to me and others who are struggling and studying !!
Schedule followed diligently till 6 pm, after which I had a panic attack.
Couldn't do answer writing..
I guess it will take a little bit more of perseverance to get into complete mains mode.
Satisfied overall with the quality of study..
Meanwhile, installed YPT app again on my phone. It is so nice to see a lot of people there now. I'll be using the app again from tomorrow.
P.s: I saw the documentary "House of Secrets- The Burari Deaths" on Netflix, day before yesterday. I never thought I would say this, but I highly recommend you guys to watch it.. It is quite intense with all the original clippings, but has way too many layers than just a 'mass suicide'.. Highly recommend
Lets go on a trip to places where you know the local language. Yay, it will be a whole India tour :)
Bharat darshan
I have done all the relevant NCERTs for Geography, prepared it with the Atlas and the works, what do y'll think about GC Leong? Should it be taken up too? I'm a little on the fence regarding this, considering Geography is relatively less important especially for the Prelims
Keep revising ncerts... Rather than going for gc leong, if you have time and you want to study some more, maybe u can try reading class 9 and 10th ncert.. And if you really want to read gc leong, then don't read it cover to cover.. You can use it for topics that are difficult to understand from ncert..
After u feel u have revised enough.. Solve pyqs.. See if you were able to solve the questions or not.
I'm usually reasonably productive, but today evening - I was struck with a bout of loneliness. I tried distracting myself to get done with the day's readings, but I couldn't.
How do you guys deal with it?
It is okay to have bouts of loneliness every now and then.. I just hope it is not a recurring feeling that is making you very sad..
Sometimes it is okay to pause and do other things that you like to do.. Treat yourself for all the times you had been productive.. dont force urself to study in such times.. The harder you will try, the more difficult you will find it ...
Go with the flow.. If you are preparing for 2022, you still have time to devote on 'self love and self care'.. do that.. and dont feel guilty about it..
Can someone please recommend a good current affairs course for prelims 2022, I am confused between Dipin sir & Santosh sir(levelupIAS) but I am open to any other institute. So, people please give some insight.
I did santosh sir's environment classes for prelims.. You will find playlist on YouTube.. I found them really really really good...
@Steph_Curry my bad. Fomo kicked in and I thought it was some prelims course offering same stuff with different name.
Funny how are minds get wired to think about everything from the perspective of our preparation..
Hahaha.. Fomo is real !!
How many tests did you give for prelims last year?
I heard he solved "Fairly good" number of tests.. was it 100 or 150 or 200????
@HeNeArKr what is the secret behind your motivation?? Inspire us , please !!
Funny how are minds get wired to think about everything from the perspective of our preparation..
Hahaha.. Fomo is real !!At this rate, I'll not be surprised if we have a prelims test series with 120 tests named '12000 steps' few years down the line!
@HeNeArKr would 10/10 subscribe
Is there one?
You would know better than any of us
Hope Forum comes out with one....Until then I am on my own :(
How many tests did you give for prelims last year?
Actually, I don't remember. I followed@sjerngal madam's strategy which she wrote on her blog.
Share the link with us tooo... !!

Hi, jerngalHRU?can u plz suggest any good u tube channel for anthropological theories & for fossils?
I am not aware of any channel for anthropological theories..
For fossils there are videos of DK Bhattacharya (around 30).. you may watch them.. They are sort of an explanation of the Ignou notes related to the same topics... Watch the videos along with the ignou/epg pathshala material.. otherwise you might find it difficult to understand the videos.
Those who are writing sfg or planning to go for it or have done in past. How do they manage test series along with it.
I dont do any other test series other than SFG..
I did give 3 open mocks from 3 different institutes but did not really find them helpful for me per se..
However, I did solve PYQS from 2000 onwards.. 3-4 times...
SFG already covers a good enough portion and I personally don't think there is a need to join a separate test series just for the sake of it..
You may agree to disagree..

Lame jokes are meant to be ignored ..
Hello everyone!
I am posting something here after about 1.5 years. Left preparing for UPSC 2021 last year, skipped prelims, tried to work a bit more on optional (math), and giving the exam this year (2022).
Got to revise static portion quickly, and take a lot of mock tests, to avoid repeating the mistake I made in 2020 pre. Any advise on my daily routine/targets will be welcome, and I thank you in advance for showing concern for me.Today's target -
100 pages of Modern India (Spectrum) - Dunno whether will be able to complete this till 3 am, till now I have done only 15 pages :(
Forgot to update yesterday-
Did 40 pages day before yesterday. - Not a very good day
And 70 pages of Modern India yesterday.
Dunno how to speed up the reading of modern India. I keep getting stuck at the facts, there are just so many names, dates and events in the religious reform movements chapter and the revolts before 1857 chapter.
Also, I noticed that they updated quite some movements and personalities in the new spectrum (2020 edition) since 2019 edition, and 2018 edition. (I have both, as I bought a new spectrum after the old one became tattered)
Any suggestions, whether I should buy and read the new one, or continue with 2019 edition would be welcome.
I dont think this is the time to cram facts and all.. there is still some time for prelims.. when the time for cramming arrives, you will cram it fairly decently in a less amount of time.. Don't worry too much about facts and all..
And regarding new edition.. continue with ur old book and maybe skim through the new content in the latest edition.. sometimes they add new stuff just for the sake of it.. Check out PYQs and see if there is any utility of what they have added..
20/2 ;
1. SFG targets
2. June - 3/3
3. CSAT - 1 hr
4. Misc - 2 hrs
5. Backlogs - SFG
@Thunderstorm Dude what pics! They are awesome. Aur aane do..
Good morning maam...
I don't want to be wrong this time let him tell himself.
I think you are right this time.. Last month@Purplesunbird showed me some of the photos that he clicked while he was interning with Daboo Ratnani....
I must say I was quite impressed.. Big Fan..
These are unbelievably lovely photos. Did you use the manual mode with different ISO settings or the portrait mode or something else? I can never take a good photo in portrait mode. So I use the basic default mode to take pictures. But they never come out this great. Hats off to your talent.PHOTOS of the day..( sorry for the watermark but these are some of the photos I took in lockdown..) 🥺🥺

Hoping to cover as much as I can today...
Good luck to me :)
P.S: Sharing a completely unrelated comic strip for dog lovers here...
Since the calendar was messed up last year with prelims in October, what would be a reasonable time period for current affairs to prepare for coming prelims? I know they ask questions for a 2-3 year old news as well but I’m asking generally, as in MUST do time period ? June to May?I personally won't be investing too much time on current affairs. I've found that it's usually not worth the time and effort for me. So thinking of doing June '21 to March' 22 monthlies.
If the FOMO gets high, I might read through last year's CA notes. But won't spend more than a day on that.
Baaki I'll keep reading newspaper throughout (as long as I can). And will supplement with CA questions from whatever tests I'll give.
Hopefully this will prove enough.
I agree with you 100%... I personally think it is time that people should stop obsessing over current affairs.. I know people who did Current affairs for the past 3 years as well for this year's prelims... but cost benefit ratio is too bad..
Beyond a point there should not be a pre-occupation with monthly/yearly magazines and compilations and current affairs..
This time they asked questions on sports.. next time they may ask questions on bollywood/hollywood... who knows??? There is no end to current affairs...
So, I believe one must give it as much importance as it deserves..
PErsonally, I will be doing exactly what you have mentioned... current: static revision ratio for me will be 1:3..
Can anyone share how are they planning to manage SFG 2 Tests with test series, their analysis, current affairs revision and static portion? It all seems too much to fit in 1 day's schedule over a perio. Please share tips??@Neyawn @Steph_Curry @sjerngal @LetsGetThisBread and others with prior experience!
I will be attaching screenshots of@AzadHindFauz 's comment (which he did few days ago) regarding a similar query.. I have similar views as mentioned and I am sure others with prior experience would more or less recommend the same.
@KG_07
Apart from this..
- Test analysis must be done the same day, otherwise it keeps piling up.. I used to attempt test from 7-8 and analyse the test from 8-9...made notes if needed.. noted down my mistakes.. categorised them into categories like "lack of revision, stupid mistake, filled wrong option by mistake".. etc...
- Dont procrastinate test analysis for some other day.. YOU WILL END UP ANALYSING NOTHING
- Don't follow test series just for the sake of it.. If you think you are weak in some area such as geography or modern history, do more practice for these... No point in giving endless number of tests for topics you are fairly good at.. Rather spend that time on revising and revising till the time you feel like puking..
- Regarding current affairs , as has been said many times on this platform earlier as well.. you need to draw a line.. "HOW MUCH CURRENT AFFAIRS IS TOO MUCH CURRENT AFFAIRS?" ... I personally follow a 1:3 ratio of revision for current: static... You may find a similar pattern for yourself..
- @Neyawn has mentioned it many times and I will repeat.. "You will not flunk prelims because you did some current affair question wrong.. You will flunk it because you did that basic polity/economy question wrong"..
Prioritize based on the analysis of PYQs..
Back here after months.. badly need some consistency and accountability
Targets for 14/5/22
- Polity Active Recall (1/2)
- Polity PyQs (T-10 years)
- Polity CA (1/2)
- SFG analysis (1/2)
No time for slacking .. God give me strength !!
Good day despite oversleeping before lunch..
Hoping to see only improvement from here !!
Goodnight Folks !
Targets for 15/5/22
- Polity Revision Complete
- Polity CA complete
- Simulator analysis
- Polity Pyqs(remaining)
Decent day, but need to buckle up more.. Clock in more number of hours !!!
North India summers are so difficult.... Soporific as Neyawn says..
It is a task to keep myself awake during the day...
Hope the rain gods give some blessings :)
As much as I try to attempt mocks in rounds, I continuously fail to do so and end up doing the paper in one round. Though for me one round is quite comfortable.
Anyone who has qualified prelims doing one round only?
What should I try to do in upcoming mocks?
There are many ways to solve the paper.
If solving it in one go makes u feel comfortable and is giving u decent marks with which u expect to qualify prelims, then so be it.
Don't change strategies right before the prelims.
There is no one correct way to solve the paper.
Just make sure that u complete the paper on time, fill the bubbles on time and have no regrets after the paper.
@sjerngal which app do you use for markings?
I use stylus with my laptop and the app is ONE NOTE.
There was thread for 2020 prelims consisting of list of miscellaneous topics to be done such as constitutional bodies, charter acts, NP, WLS etc. It was a comprehensive one with good deal of discussions. I am unable to find it.
Can someone direct me to the thread?
@Patrick_jane @NadanParinda @mickeyviru you guys were active on that thread. Please help

Targets for 20/5/22
- Ancient and Medieval- Static
- Ancient and Medieval PYQs (1995-2010)
- OCtober and November CA
- 2 sfg papers
Good luck to everyone.. Almost 2 weeks left for prelims.. BUCKLEEE UPP !!!
Quite a bad day yesterday, to say the least.
Nevermind.
Had a good start to the day, hoping to keep the momentum till the end of the day..
Targets for May 23 (84) - jkas prelims (7/40) - geography self notes complete, ncert (1 of 4), miscellaneous, newspaper, pranayama, exercise
Sending you all good wishes, have an amazing week : )
An average day. Will study more just now. Have made a conditional promise. Days I dont study for minimum number of hours, will skip the exercise the next morning. Let’s see how long it goes.
Targets for May 24 (85) - jkas prelims (8/40) - geog ncert (3 of 4), miscellaneous, newspaper, exercise, pranayama
Good luck dostoen : )
Healthy mind stays in a healthy body.
I would suggest not to skip exercises.. . Reduce the duration of the exercise, but dont skip it..
Weather here is so beautiful.. I am sure you will have a good exercise session tomorrow morning :)
Targets for 23/5/22
- Revise Ancient and Medieval + Audio notes
- Budget and Economic Survey revision
- APR (1/2)
- May 2021-December 2021 CA
- SFG Papers-Science and Tech
- Mapping - 90 minutes
Note to self: Do Not sleep during the day, no matter how sleepy you feel. (except 20 min power nap)
Did not sleep much during the day except the power nap.. But really really need to increase the momentum..
The current speed of revision is not what one should have 12 days before the Prelims.
Did get a minor panic attack an hour ago..
The only way to overcome it is to keep going forward.. !!
How do you guys remember "contemporary type" questions in ancient, medieval history. Do you actually remember the dates or is there a story linking two events. Like that Iltutmish-Chengiz khan-Tughlaq-Timur type questions. They completely bamboozle me, no matter how much i try to remember their actual dates. Complicate this with Bhakti Sufi saints and it becomes unfathomable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@jassikamboj16303 this map is from New Ncert, if I am not wrong. Try to cram it , if possible.
I would personally suggest not to fret over it, because hardly 1 question will come, so rather focus on revising other things.
However, if you can cram this, then well and good.
Targets for 25/5/22
- Revise entire Modern India
- Modern India SFG
- Entire history PYQs
- Entire history audio notes
- MApping (whenever bored of the targets above)
Good day to everyone. Only 11 days left for prelims.. Keep the josh high !!!
Note to Self:
- Do not sleep in the day
- No screen after 10 pm
Not a great day yesterday as I would have loved it to be.. Slept for good 2-3 hours during the day, despite planning not to do that.
@sjerngal How do you revise SFG?
I am attempting the test again (for subjects in which I scored really low and for subjects in which I think I should). PErsonally I would not have done this, had I analysed the SFGs on the same day itself (like I did last year). This time, I did not get time to do that.
Last year, I used to revise only the mistakes that I had made during the SFG. If you have analysed your tests before hand, I would recommend you to just go through your mistakes, internalize it in your mind and make sure that you don't repeat them.
People with Strong zone in Reading Comprehension , how you guys attempt the CSAT paper ??
1. Just solve passages at one go then solve remaining accordingly
2 . Solve around 10-15 passages then some quant reasoning then remaining passages
3. Solving 1st hour Quant + reasoning , last hour passages ?
Or any other way
I use the third option. In RC also, I try to solve those questions first where the passages are short...
All the best to everyone who is appearing for Prelims tomorrow.
Such is the nature of the exam that even people who have cleared prelims many times in a row, are fearful of it.
A lot of you might be feeling that you don't remember anything; you will go blank etc. I used to feel the same and I know many people who go through the same thing. You are not alone.
But as far as my experience is concerned, this never happens. When we have the paper in our hand, we will recall many things and we will be able to mark the answers as well.
Just be calm and composed. Don't let the exam take a toll on you.
You guys have been preparing from the past so many months and years. Just have a little faith in yourself. Trust your preparation and you will be good to go..
Getting around 94. Should i start for mains? Kuch raah dikhaoo bhaiyon. Made some very silly mistakes in 4-5 extremely simple questions. Anyways! Please tell what to do?
Please start.
There is no harm in doing this.
Rather than wasting 20 days, do something that will increase ur chances of clearing mains..
94 seem a reasonably decent score considering the type of paper ..
Guys, did you mark Biorock technology, Miyawaki method, Gucchi, Nitrogen Fixing Plants, Climate Action Tracker, EP100 questions? If yes, had you read them somewhere? These sort of questions are now regular, yet not found in Newspapers, conventional Current sources.
I beg to differ..
Most of These terms have been in newspapers.
For example-. I remember adding Miyawaki in my notes way back in 2020.. It has been repeated many times after that.
@HeNeArKr How did your exam go?
He is Prelims god ..
3rd attempt, going to be first mains
luckily cleared pre. 6211404;
so scared( because of blunders I did in both papers.) - didn't even count the marks;
optional: Anthro (some help pls in case needed,@sjerngal )
Hey, first of all , congrats :)
You will have a great time preparing for mains.
Secondly, Relax..
I'm here :)
