Uski yaad mein ekaat question solve karo yeh lo :D

C?

I didn't solution was already posted. One could've eliminated 4th statement as scrub forest would be hard to found in Andaman and Lakshadweep. Also, their small size makes it all possible.

Apart from this, I had a carbon emission doubt for the past one year. It is related to a video posted just now.

When we say plant or animal emitting carbon, isn't it a bit of a misnomer? Since they used up CO2 present in the air to build up their biomass, eventually, that is being released into the air. So, no net addition. Whereas, if you look at fossil fuels you're introducing new carbon from deep down the earth surface into the air. You're actually adding the carbon here. Emission by plants and animals is just a part of the self-sustaining carbon cycle.

For all those who will be disputing that biomass isn't made up of CO2 present in air, you're wrong :p Biomass isn't created from soil.

I don’t think it’s simple to say that biomass is created from CO2. Biomass is also made to a large extent from food and nutrients that are consumed, so it’s not net zero addition. I’m by no means an expert on environment issues so this is just my common sense talking

Check the link I've shared above. It is from the air carbon. Else show the proof of plants getting their mass from soil and nutrients. :)

I’m pretty sure plants don’t require soil to grow, they just need any medium to anchor (hydroponics is pretty well known for that), but they do need nutrients to grow is also a fact. Because if that’s not the case, I would like to sue my plants who need ten million micronutrients to keep growing

So what do these nutrients do if not help in growing?

Exactly what micronutrients like vitamins, zinc, iron does to your body. Do they make up your structure or mass, no. But they perform some essentials functions in cells and the overall body.

@walterwhit3 What about the #MeToo movement?? They can also give the same logic that I am a changed person now...

I have been asking this question myself. Some of the cases in #Metoo were as old as 11 or 15 years. I particularly remember a US case where a judge was accused of sexual harassment that dated back 30 years. The judge was convicted in this case, based on the testimony of the victim.

However, the conundrum here is sexual harassment is a criminal offense. The perpetrator should be put to justice, whenever possible. But that happened after a proper trial. It was a legal procedure.

The problem with social media trial, the case in point, is pretty different. Was he given a chance to clarify his position or straightaway removed? I am not sure about this. Remember the Munavvar Faruiqi case? SC gave him bail after finding no evidence, even though social media has hailed him as a serial offender.

I can't decide the validity of action being taken here but there is surely a need for due process, rather than random decisions. That's about that.

Does anyone have a book or pdf on Great Indian Personalities? Any collection?

P.S: Not asking for any coaching reference material.

There is a book by Ramchandra Guha called "Makers of modern India ". Its a good read. But it has only historical personalities of freedom struggle.

Don't know if that will intrest you.Baki random pdfs can be found anywhere.

I agree on the methane part, livestock makes more potent GHG rather than CO2 which would have been the case if not for livestock.  But livestock also eventually takes up plant biomass and converts it into GHG. The only difference livestock here making is turning the otherwise CO2 into methane. This argument is also supported by the fact that Biofuel is treated as a green source of energy. Imagine why? Because it doesn't create new carbon in the ecosystem, it simply uses the biomass which would've decomposed emitting out gases in open fields.

But for me, it all seems misplaced attention towards GHG contribution from agriculture and livestock. The only net addition of carbon in the ecosystem is from fossil fuels. This discourse eventually hurts policymaking and public efforts towards reducing GHG emissions.

Guys for Gs-1 mains specific topics, what do you recommend? Vision IAS VAM or Only IAS material. ?
I will start tomorrow so I want some suggestions as to which one should I pick.
Thanks

Go with anyone. VAM is referred by many. Make notes preferably and in long term it wont matter. CA would also cover static part of society and for other topics it is quite static. For Geography Industrial location Mrunal could be referred.

Others can pitch in !

PS : I havent made notes for Static topics of GS1 and tried to add some points from VAM into my class notes.

But the form of the carbon emitted matters, no? Over a long period of time, there may be no net addition ofcarbon, but thereisa net addition of methane and N2O, which are uniquely harmful.

There is a quantity of methane being produced, that would not have been produced had those animals not been reared. So attention to them is warranted.

But i do agree - focus on agricultural emissions and saying "just stop eating meat and climate change is solved" does draw focus away from fixes in the area of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels also produce compounds livestock doesn't.

Completely agree with what you said. I guess I stretched livestock emission a bit too far, it holds good for agriculture majorly.  The concluding point was regarding the wrong focus towards the sources of GHG i.e. fossil fuels. It hurts when you see yourself having so much of a carbon footprint even when you try to minimise it.

@Usain_bolt History ??

Han bhai. Tum bhi?

We will change the course of history. :P

Hahaha. Jae baat!

Now our@Usain_bolt will make a record in history optional highest scorer as Usain Bolt ⚡ of Jamaica record of 9.58 sec

This name itself give feeling to break records 👍👍

Kaash ye comment mai apni mummy ko dikha pata. She will be so proud.

On a serious note, I scored decently(276 marks) in my first attempt (2019). I genuinely think 320+ kind of score is possible in history also. Mera pata nai but koi toh laega.

Seek and ye shall find?

324 Marks in CSE 2018.

Haan, absolutely. In the past few years people are finally starting to talk about the ridiculousness and hypocrisy of placing such a big focus on personal individual responsibility when corporations happily go on making zero changes.

There was some noise in the west about banning regular plastic straws - which can be necessary in many cases, for example for a someone who has a disability. Some company jumped in and started promoting its metal straws, which came wrapped individually in plastic. Lol.

@Rashmirathi very disappointed tbh. He surely was a hero for many sportspersons and very much respected in the Jat community. The act in itself is shocking, him having been a sportsperson of high caliber and still having done this is what saddens me more. Early on I did not want this to be true however now I hope he doesn’t get away with this.
Sadly it speaks a lot of how the ‘gunda’ culture is so pervasive among certain sections and how this mentality can destroy even the most successful of people.

He would continue to be hero just like many other famous criminals who are worshiped in Jatland, Punjab, UP and Rajasthan. Reservation Politics in North India is based on Dominant Castes like Jats, Gujjar, Yadav, Meena etc. With given Social, Political and Economical power, everyone is bullying laws on daily basis.

PS : Not disrespecting any community but its Ground level reality when you overpower someone.

Just in case anyone is interested.

Source:- Mudit Jain Telegram Channel.

Is it just me or there seems to be a bias in literature optionals?

Literature Optionals may have a higher selection ratio, but marks given even to the topper are not very high. Except for Hindi, Kannada and occasionally English Literature - I have not come across any other literature paper consistently giving the topper 300+ year after year.

I don't think Hindi Literature was that scoring in 2019, topper who got 310+ in 2018, reduced to 260s in 2019.

I wish if only it was that scoring in 2019, I would have made to the final list :P

hope it was only for 2019, (2020 will tell), otherwise it is high scoring optional

Not in CSE 2019, but that was also the case across optionals. In CSE 2017 the highest was 340+ in Hindi Literature if I remember correctly.

All the best for this year!

Some nutrients like phosphorus actively promote root growth, it might be indirect but it still influences. But I get your point. And I do agree burning of fossil fuels and the need for alternate fuels is an important issue that is often overlooked, especially in the west. But as@whatonly pointed out, there also needs to be debate over the massive livestock industry as polluters as well
