Book: Spectrum- Modern India
Chapter: Major approaches to history of modern India
Section: Marxist approach
Doubt: The book says that the Marxist historians clearly saw the inner contradictions between different sections of people of Indian society. What contradictions is the author talking about?
Marxist lens views society primarily from a class perspective. This viewpoint was not relevant in India as:
i) it was not an industrial society where bourgeoise and proletariat classes exist and are sharply divided;
ii) other identity markers like caste, ethnicity, religion took primacy and intersected with class.
