Geography optional Mains 2019 discussion | Lessons Learnt

@Rand_Al_ThorI was expecting 125-130 in 2017, got 133. This year I had much better preparation, still found it tougher than 2017, expecting around 125 only.

@Rand_Al_Thormap only 5 correct. Rest was ok. Finding geo oriented contect was difficult though.

6.8k views

@Bubba_gumpI have written mains twice before. So I calculate based on previous marks.

6.8k views

@Scorpion888Paper 1 human geo was like gs only. I wrote about Perrourx theory of growth poles in two lines and spread effect by Myrdal. Rest I wrote general about argument for and against growth pole based development.

@al_biruni160 is a great score..How much u got in previous attempts

3.6k views

@al_birunididn't appear in 2018. 146 in 2016 and 131 in 2017. This time only 5 map entries correct. Not much hope.

3.6k views

@al_birunibelow Still 150 is not good enough.

3.1k views

@al_biruniWhy low expectation in Paper 1.

3.1k views

@al_biruniIt was a bit difficult, but it also has liberal marking. Which test series did u take this year.

3.1k views

@al_birunionly 10 markers were difficult. Rest were straightforward questions.

3.1k views

@al_biruniOther Optional people I asked were cheerful about their paper 1.

3.1k views

@al_biruniHave u appeared for interview before

3.1k views

@al_biruniYear.. What are you studying till mains results

3.1k views

@al_biruni140 u can cross if 230 attempt is of decent quality.

3.1k views

@madeyeAnything below 250 is disaster anyway.

@madeyeUtilize this time for optional.

@jumboEMISAT, gsat 7 7A, new relaunch vehicle tech cryp tech and few others

@Arrah_Jilayes I also included it. Shakti was in news.

@Bubba_gumpgood quality answers fetch 60% plus marks in optional.

@hirockyrocks7101I found this year tougher compared to 2017. I had 133 in P1 in 2017. Good answers fetch 60% plus, meaning 150+ score, depending upon how good they are.

@Bubba_gumpleft 20 blank. 30 below average. 150 well adressed in paper 1. Paper 2 only 5 map correct. Around 200 mark is well addressed.

3.1k views

@hirockyrocks7101I knew pseudovolcanic and micro carbon sin that year, but this year phreatic and Harhtshorne question complete blank. NRR wrote nonsense.

3.1k views

@hirockyrocks7101IN paper 1? question number??

3.1k views

@hirockyrocks71014(a) paper 2.. Yes I attempted that one.

3.1k views

@hirockyrocks7101Well..I had addressed multiple dimensions, don't remember much now. 3(a) on effect of pesticide was average attempted with general content and 6(a) on intrabasin linkages was also average.

3.1k views

@hirockyrocks7101Yes, similar points. I kept the answer revolving around Indian federalism. I attempted this question because I had good data available for 4(c), directly from economic survery.

3.1k views

@Arrah_JilaSimilar situation here. I knew boundary classification, but didn't know it was given by Harthshorne. left it completely blank. Phreatic blank. NRR incorrect. Rest paper was ok. I am hoping for 130+. Scaling should happen. Most of other optional paper 1 were too easy.

2.8k views

@Arrah_Jila300 leke bhi Anthro vale select nhi ho paa rhe kuch toh. 280 hi aa jaye, mere liye sufficient honge.

2.8k views

@RagsBhai 260 me kya hi overall score bnega. Not enough for a final rank. Mains bhi border pe clear hoga

@Scorpion888gs me 430+ chahye in that scenario, which is a herculean task.

@RagsAre u hopeful of getting 420 this year?

@RagsGS all Attempted?

@132_SIDVery basic answer I wrote. Not much content, compared with inter basin and some advantages over it.

2.8k views

@SUMANSAURABH201296904Ken Betwa will be interbasin, it could be given as an example to identify shortcomings of interbasin (env concerns and displacement issues). For intrabasin, main examples to be highlighted had to be on line of watershed I think.

2.8k views

@132_SIDMaine intrabasin dekha and mann me exam set krne vale ko gaali di..for inter basin we had so many examples but intrabasin puch lia

2.8k views

@Arrah_JilaWhy should be shy away from writing core geography in GS1. I usually answer geography questions in similar fashion as optional if I can.

2.8k views

@Arrah_JilaIn optional also, if they are asking about coral bleach only, writing Coral building theories won't fetch extra marks.

2.7k views

@Arrah_JilaThis is just speculation. I have found more liberal checking for below avg answer for paper1, but again this could be due to scaling or whatever reason, no one actually knows.

2.7k views

@Arrah_JilaMap kitna kia? Mera only 5 correct h

2.7k views

@Arrah_JilaLol..mere bhi same yhi vale hai

2.7k views

@eminembitwPM me ur email id. I will send my copy and toppers copy I have from previous years.

2.8k views

@Arrah_JilaConcentric donation model is applicable to Western Europe mainly, not to India. Maybe Bazaar or port model could have been mentioned. I didn't mention any more and wrote general answers with Delhi and Mumbai maps.

2.8k views

@132_SIDHow are ram Mandir, rashtravad, Sri Devi death good examples of media reporting.

2.8k views

@hirockyrocks7101Nice write-up esp in environment. I didn't know any of these wildlife related theories.

2.8k views

@hirockyrocks7101Not always true. I scored 146 in p2 in 2016 and 131 next year, 15 marks down. Is bar map bhi 5 hi hue hai

2.9k views

@hirockyrocks7101Is bar Anthropology ke sath vhi hona chahye jo geo ke sath 2015 me hua

2.9k views

@hirockyrocks7101In western cities, rich people tend to move to outskirts and near CBD working class can stay. In India, rich live right in middle of city and middle lower class move outskirts. That's why slum growth in middle of cities due to huge unaffordable prices. CBD model exactly doesn't explain India's mixed land use pattern and slum issue.

@HartshorneGS ka kaisa scene hai?

2.8k views

@HartshorneYe kaisi anxiety h jo nind bdha rahi hai

2.9k views

@hirockyrocks7101801 (137+408+110p1+146p2). Paper 1 bad due to lack of material, didn't know what to study, bought some notes from market. Interview terrible due to lack of preparation. Paper 1 hi major culprit hai. This time I had prepared a lot for it, but again jo notes pdhe and tests diye unse kuch khaas fayda nhi hua. I studied perspectives in human geo extensively, but not much use. I knew boundary classification but it didn't know Harthshorne ne hi diya hai, so I left it. Aise hi kuch bad prep, kuch bad luck. Is bar GS me thodi jada hope hai

2.9k views

@HartshorneMumbai me abhi bhi ac vali garmi hai

2.9k views

@hirockyrocks7101803 (142+ 397+ 133p1+131 p 2) in 2017 . Missed cutoff by 6 marks. This time p2 went way better than 2017 and gs also. P1 ka same story repeated.

2.8k views

@HartshorneI know. Christmas pe jana h ghar vhi se. I miss the cold weather. Har saal yhi garmi me nikalta hai Mumbai ke humid weather me.

2.9k views

@hirockyrocks7101Rains aisi hoti h halat khrab krne vali. My office is nearby and I walk. Rainy season me manholes yad krke walk krna pdta h because kai open hote hai. If u miss, u are going down.

2.8k views

@Bubba_gumpP1 I felt difficult compared to 2017. 2018 I didn't attempt, but paper looked easy.
