Hello All, Reading newspaper is not my cup of tea. I have not read it for more than a year now, nonetheless its utility in CSE can't be denied. So can you good people of forum share experts/columnist name and the domain on which their opinion is holistic and worth reading. As far as i can recall, Dr Ashok Gulatiused to write on Agricultural issues in Indian Express andC. Rajamohanon International Relations in the same newspaper.
Thank You
Its a very personal thing I feel. In the end all that matters is that you need to have good points and analysis on different issues which are more or less certain and on everyone's radar. Now, if you can write those answers nicely in the tests and the real exam without reading the paper, there isnt any need to go for it. If you feel you get perspective and better retention by reading it, then read it. In my personal opinion, with regards to clearing this exam, reading the same issue/news with different politicians/experts etc views for weeks on end is a total waste of time. You can do better by investing that time in strengthening other areas. Because in the end all the coaching materials do provide multiple viewpoint based notes for Mains issues. The moot point remains on how efficiently you can rote learn them and reproduce in the exams. Focus on this part rather than reading editorials and feeling content. You will get nowhere if you dont rote learn/memorise a majority of the syllabus.
Please hear me out.
Try to read the paper, no matter how tedious it looks. Let me illustrate with an example.
Take the news for the new IT rules. Initially, you would read it on the front page and some pages inside. Then the editorials and explainers would come in the subsequent days. They will be followed by remarks by noted politicians etc. Then more editorials from people with different perspectives. You'd end up reading about IT rules one way or the other for about a week.
The benefits-
A narrative is built in your mind. It helps in retention.
A holistic view is presented in front of you, which widens your horizon of understanding.
When you are set to revise Current Affairs from any magazine you can master the topic with little effort, as it is already in the back of your mind.
Your interlinking skill sharpens as week-long news on the same issue covers all possible viewpoints.
I know you clarified in the first place you have tried and somehow aren't able to, I'd strongly suggest you read newspapers. :)

Oh. Okay. It’s been quite a while since I shifted to Express. Thanks for letting me know!
That written interview between 2 scholars comes on Friday.
Additionally, on Sunday there comes a explained page of 3-4 most important topics covered in a very holistic manner of the week gone by in Hindu. What I have seen is on Sundays the coverage of express is very bad( Ofcourse in context of this exam only).
Even if you have shifted to express, I would suggest read Hindu on Sunday only. That explained page+ Sci tech page of Sunday is awesome. You can try.

Words to live by for me, my friend. :)
Especially since I’m facing a time crunch.

Though I disagree with your views regarding the paper, in 1000% agreement with your last line- You will get nowhere if you don't rote learn/memorise a majority of the syllabus.
