Then after a stellar test series Pant got his place back. Moreover, back problems of Hardik Pandya has also been a issue.

Even I like the ODIs. But I feel under Kohli test cricket has become more interesting 😛
well he built the team in his own image and I feel there is a lack of natural leadership after him. I’m not sure KL Rahul will be that indispensable player himself who will be the long term leader. Like when Dhoni was getting old we all could see the natural leader emerging in Virat…now there is a massive vacuum. I think we as Indian fans should expect a period of slump before things fully settle

The Indian team management is all about getting half-baked players in the team...back in 2005..if a player had under-performed..his 2007 world cup chances would had been cut.
But now what I see is pure contractualisation. All they play for $$$. They sacrifice their bodies for IPL. Kohli has lost his flicks because of the injuries he has sustained.
Now Ipl-accha-hai support brigade will attack me, saying that "iPl hAs GiVeN us ManY gUd plAyerz".
this is precisely the problem, many good players but NOT ONE great player since 2015 WC. Since 2019 WC there have been so many players like Shankar, Shardul, Shivam Dubey,blah blah.
The board now wants to select a Bunch of players with some fixed seniors to win small matches but no big tournament.
Dhoni inspired through his demeanor, Kohli through his aggression but KL Rahul seems absent on the field..just like a Yogi watching the play from some distance.. His Kxip captaincy is also on stake.
A day will come, dear Guys and Gals, that IPL will be organised in parallel with World Cup. That day will come.

Well yeah..his captaincy and unparalleled influence over the board was criticised by RC Guha as well (He has written a lovely book on Cricket recently btw)

Kohli was never a better tactician but a leader who showed intensity to win. As a captain he suffered from short term memory loss because he changed and chopped the 11 every now and then. Never backed a player. Preferring Shankar over Rayudu. Then no signs of KulCha after 2019 WC. Ignored Bhuvi in tests.
Even in tests we don’t have settled opening pair.
In the recent past I think atleast 6-7 combinations have been tried.

My take - India's top3 has been so dominant since 2015 that nobody has been able to settle down in that role since. And we had Dhoni holding up a position till 2019.
