I have seen people with a bit of limited knowledge getting in and some amazing, really hardworking people missing out on the interview call. What did you learn? What would you advise others?
@abhinav23raj436Thanks ! Probably you are right with the second point. For every answer, I have to scratch my head a little. I also have one fear that after 3 months of MCQ solving spree for prelims, my writing speed will be back to square one. How to maintain at least some speed even during that phase?

keep writing 3 answers everyday!
for whomsoever it may concern
upsc cse is a game if 'one equation' having several variables,,,,
jis kisi ki taraf ye equation hai uska final list mein naam hota hai
kucch variables candidate k control mein hote hai, maximum beyond thr control.
(first attempt - final selection can never know these variables)
people use to talk ki maine ye kia i got these much marks, maine wo kia tb bhi i got acche marks, etc etc no body discuss the reality , or may be this reality is not known jyadatr ko
leaving beside variables like hardwork, smartwork , health, etc i want to share some uncontrollable variables , which is due ti process followed and human psychology/error
- moderation in gs - we all know gs papers are common for all candidates , according to upsc one examiner can only checl 250-300 copies ( upsc website)
so they do moderation , by selecting top 10 copies n averaging and all, so the score u see is moderated score, and due to huge number of copies and human nature, thr are possibility ki ur final score cud get reduced by 15 to 20 marks and vice-versa . - relativness - performance of 5/6 people prior to u, can make a difference of atleast .5 mark ler question
if u have 5 people with very good content ,ur good cud get below avg marks and viceversa, by taking bare minimum .5 , it can make huge difference, 10*4 40 marks or so, u may be on hogher side or lower side in any of the gs, so on an avg 10-15 marks got impacted - your optional, u may have topped in ur optional in previous year but those 3+3 hrs and the setting of optional ( lengthy difficult,) and best performance matters a lot! especially in engineering optionals, as upsc use to change paper setters so in any attmpt u may find different demands of the paper altogether jiska u were not ready or some optional may had followed the same pattern . ( this variable is most imp which can break your chances any day!)
thr are many more variables like - essay , its not like ur best essay will result in best marks or so
- intrvw, intrvw panel etc . which can only be understood by failing in mains/ intrvw several time
Aftr all best of the best people give mains, ( aftr clearing biggest variable of the whole process , the prelims)
equation sath hai to selection hoke rhega
equation sath nhi to kuch b karlo nhi hoga
ye sbh excuse be sound kr skte, but dont take ur failure seriously j, jaha improvement ho sake karo n equation sath hone ka wait karo
jitna ho sake variables ( controllable) ko apni taraf karo
kucch log attmpts n age rhte equation sath lejate hai, n bhot log( majority) afsos esa nhi kr pate,n gum hojate
sorry for typo, mobile se kia hai to assume krlena kuch absur ho koi word
ps i have facts in the form of marksheet of my frnds n mine jinka maine sirf conclusion btaya is post mein
