Desher katha is 1&2 beyond any doubt. Verbatim is directly lifted from ishita dube.
explanation
1. Rabindranath tagore was a strong critique of the fact that there was no word in India to represent a nation so bengali scholars started using desh to signify a nation.
2. the author goes on to say that desh used by desukar was in the same context. ( nation/country)
3. the book is written by a marathi author in bengali, and he talks about the economic drain of India citing examples from RC dutt and dadabhai naroji ( so its obvious it was not about local issues)
4. The book was written in 1904 . That is early 20th century by that time due to formation on congress and rise of extremists the concept of nationalism was already present in India. Swadeshi movement was in maharastra and North too.
Which answer key bro?
Giving Clarification about Desher Katha last time. Rest its upto oneself if you want to agree or not.
The entire section of that chapter is written by ishita dube with the rise of Nationalism and The emergence of Idea of a Country aka Bharatmata.
The author says desukar used desh in the context we just Discussed ( what has she discussed in previous 2 pages?.. ans - Idea of nation)) baad me she gives clarification that since desh over laps with place of origin like varna and jati but that was a ‘mix up’
I am attaching the 2 pages Plus see my older explanation of it.
Also A mahrastran author writing in Bengali about The economic drain of India citing examples from RC dutt and Dadabhai Naroji And in turn inspiring swadeshi activist all around India if someone think desh is specifically used for Bengal then all the best. Its just clinging to hope.
I am going to post the image from real book. The actual desher katha. The title of first chapter is ‘ aamader desh’ i.e. our country. The 3rd word in first line is bharatbhoomi. 3rd line last 3 words .. ai ashoke british bharat bole... i.e this is called as ‘ British Bharat ( India)’ Last para first line ‘ Samasta bharat hindu sankya’ i.e population of Hindus in Bharat ( India)
over and out
I will also give my final piece on Rakhmabai case
Behramji Malabari's 1884 "Note" on child marriage leading to enforced widowhood, led to a countrywide debate on the prohibition of child marriage. Thissocial institution (child marriage) had by then become an issue of public debateas a result of a court case in 1884—88 (in which Rukhmabai had refused to recognise her husband'sconjugal rights. in last she lost the case). important reformists formed the Rukhmabai Defence Committee, of which Malabari was an important member. ( Sekhar Bandopaddhya)
The Rakhmabai case was intricately interwovenwith the Age of Consent debates, since the issue of restitution ofconjugal rightswas closely tied to that of the consummation of marriage (Anagol 2010: 293). Rakhmabai’s deiance and the increasing assertiveness of the women of Maharashtra produced a clash of fears and hopes, of ‘contending conceptions of the desired social order’ (Chandra 1998: 2). While women held child marriage and arranged marriage responsible for the unhappiness of Indian wives, male discourse evaded acknowledging the existence of ‘unhappiness’ in child marriages. ( Ishita dube)
I know some of you wont agree. But still. I have doubts on preamble and AI one too.. however Since i have zero expertises in the matter i keep mum
I hope you are right with this. In exam hall I remembered the point given in laxmikant where its written ‘’ Further, where the terms used in any article are ambiguous or capable of more than one meaning, some assistance at interpretation may be taken from the objectives enshrined in the Preamble. ‘’
Baaki I dont have deeper understanding of justiciable vs legal affect etc.. so i dont know. If its D its plus 2.67
Desher katha it’s all 123I too was considering 3rd wrong unless I read the page of Dube's book multiple times only to find out that It could actually be true.
"Book says he meant Nation by DESH,but the context of nation has been explained in preceding lines and it goes on to say the same concept of nation must have been prevalent in marathi as well only to corroborate Deuskar's stnd on station".
I might be wrong in my interpretation!
Yes friend you are wrong in your interpretation and its not your fault that book is very difficult to comprehend.. But a patient read will tell you what she actually meant.
Also as posted before I have checked the desher katha book itself and desh has been used for bharat bhoomi. Being from Bengal I do have an advantage there to get it checked out
Also Got it confirmed by local teachers here .
@chelseaboy what about NALSA, man?
I have no expertise on NALSA, I have marked 1&4 but counting it as a sure shot wrong
My 2 cents with regards to cutoff
Last year (2019) Everyone knew the cutoff was going to be 95-104 , thats A range of around 10 marks, Shankar ias prediction was 99-102 i.e. A range of 4 marks. In short they covered the 40% range of probable cutoff and still got it wrong😂
which factors can lead to increase in Cut off this year
Decrease in vacancies - Yes
Tukkafication - No!!! There were many questions the answers to which was not a simple D. Also in 2018,2019 you had similar Dfication sentiments running around
which Factors can lead to decrease in cutoff
1.The toughest csat in recent history . According to a survey 46% of students are either failing or in borderline in paper 2
2. Lack of sheer number of absolute sitters.
3. Almost 2/3rd of Questions had multiple statements . People didnt had the luxury of time in this paper
4. Inflation - People despite getting a 100% conformity that their answer is not the best answer are still counting the marks for that question. This leads to overall inflation in market
5. Last year 40% of people on Telegram posted their scores tobe above 100 , the sample was 12000 votes. This year 40% of people on telegram claiming their score to be above 95
The overall cutoff has to be - 95 (+-1)
Some people really need to get some nuance while reading the preamble question
Both A and D options are same. However D option is an extension of A.
A just says that preamble has no legal implication
D says it has no implication independent of others
Obviously the whole basic structure is based on the ideals of the preamble.
Obviously the various legal and fundamental rights and provisos give fruition to the objectives forwarded in the preamble
Secularism , that is expressly provided for only in the preamble has been used by bommai case.
Obviously preamble has no legal implication.
But read it with the constitution it forwards only those ideals that preamble provides for.
The option A would have been correct had there been no option D. That's the case with that tourist officer question. Not with UPSC
Perfectly answered.. A would be correct without D. But since option D is an extension of A, it is the best possible answer.
Lets hope so :|

UPSC took the pain of making a new option. ( If they picked the question from a standard question bank ) . This is not such a simple A , as many are implying using the Mizoram question paper.
Just like that Ecosystem question it might be about which option is more correct.
I simply don't understand the point of trying to prove that your answer is correct to anonymous people. UPSC is not going to decide by looking at sources which people are quoting here. They would have already decided the answer. For Preamble question, somebody shared the exact question a day after the exam. Unfortunately, that source does not have the answer so you will have to wait till next year to see what correct answer is. Believe me, the regret of failing in the process keeps increasing with each passing stage. Here is the source of the exact Preamble question if somebody still wants to do some more research.
