How will I eat goat and chicken and fish after reading this. Agriculture also kill worms and insects and rodents.
Yes and washing your hands with soap kills bacteria. Don't wash your hands then. Bacteria is a living thing. You tell me which is more evil ? Practicing agriculture to feed yourself and others Or slaughtering an animal in front of you watch him shiver with pain. Wait for his death only to eat him later.

In these corona times is it safe to share the joint ? ..Am just concerned about the health of esteemed members.
The only issue that can cause problem is saliva. One can try smoking in a style where there is no direct contact between the doobie and mouth, like the Chillum style. 👇🏼
How about a sanitizer wala filter?
Since there is no information on centre change, should we assume that they won't give that option?
Jan 1st week mains in delhi is going to be a task :( Sept sochke delhi rakha tha mains ka center
Exactly that's what i was thinking. I remember i had a tough time going to office in January this year. This years winter was very harsh. It was bone chilling cold and writing mains with those shaky hands will be a challenge for Delhi people.
» show previous quotes sad. i skipped this attempt to get some kind of a job , but corona has shown that even the best of plans can go to the dogs !! coincidentally, i read a novel The Joke just before corona and now life has replied - Jokes on you. only if it were a meme i could have quipped - No You.
My case is exact opposite. I quit my 5 years of pvt job in January to prepare for upsc full time thinking that if i fail on 31st may i will go back looking for jobs in june and if by gods grace i clear prelims then i would go back to job in September as per upsc's earlier schedule. Now, corona ne sabkuch fasa diya.. upsc ne exam latka diya itna late.. job market is screwed up for sure..the more i stay unenmployed the more difficult will be for me to get the job back.. cause private sector takes employment gap seriously..

Delhi walon(I too was till Oct 2019)- Delhi Mei sardi nahi moderate sardi hoti hai
Bhai pichle 5 saal sardi nahi hui delhi mein. Lekin is saal daba ke hui.. asli winter is saal aaya..
Bhaiya mere : Time bahut hai, January 2019 se lekar August 2020 taak ke, Vision aur Insights ke monthly CA padhunga.
~Pt 365 dokha dega, pura Content padho,monthwise.
+ Mains ke liye monthly hi best hai gurudev. Double exercise kaiko karna
Why is vision magazine more popular than others. For example I like insights because it has greater horizontal coverage from prelims perspective and also provides useful data. Vision magazines I found that are quite detailed in coverage but only limited number of topics are covered . Share your reasons why you guys prefer vision
For me, 1. Lucidity : Vision is lucid. Language is easy. It is easier to understand overall. Insights looks like copy pasted from Wikipedia.
2. Vision covers background and related news in the boxes and they also use pictures (infographics). These aid in better retention and helps in interlinking of concepts. Insights looks little dry. I believe in understanding things and not mugging up.
3. Vision provides a better outline of information i.e. starting with why in news? Issues, background info, pros ,cons, way forward. This again really helps.
4. Coverage might be limited but whatever is covered in vision is covered holistically. You dont need to refer any other source for that topic.
Basically, looking at the number of days left, I can pick up only 1 monthly compilation.
So, can anyone give analysis ofVisionvs.Insightvs.IASBaba (monthly + babapedia)vs.Drishti
If you can share your experience, it will be easier for me and other fresh aspirants to make an informed decision and stick to 1 source till the exam.
My 2 cents. Go with Drishti. Daily News and Analysis if possible. Why-
1. Unlike Insights, it does not merely copy pastes stuff and makes the analysis readable and understandable. I followed Insights from July- November. Since December, I have been exclusively following Drishti.
2. Vision too is good. I followed Monthlies during 2018-19 attempt. But I always have a feeling that in their pursuit to put more content in less number of pages, they sometime bombard too much of content.
3. Drishti has decent horizontal as well as vertical coverage. Give it a try. You probably will like it.
4. And for Mains GS,there is nothing as good as Insights Secure Initiative, though it takes a good amount of time.
Do you think insights secure is worth doing? i mean the compilation they provide of questions and answers is really huge. I have just seen that compilation. Never read that. Don't know if the cost-benefit is good? I think they provide 10 questions daily. So all in all 3600 questions in a year. (300*12). That's like too much! Even upsc in gs 2 and gs 3 doesn't ask all 20 questions of current affairs only. They also don't follow any pattern like they won't restrict to last one year. Some questions are generic. Mostly will be be contemporary i.e. based on the theme of last 4-5 years be it economy or polity. And some static too.
@Tokyo Exam will not be cancelled. Because,
- Glenmark has been granted permission by DCGI to sell Favipiravir (For mild and moderate cases - It stops replication of virus at early stages and brings down the viral load in about 4 days). This medicine is an oral medication and the biggest benefit is that it can be taken at home unlike Remdesivir which has to be injected. This will reduce the need for hospitalization and therefore not burden our healthcare systems.
- And for severe cases where immune system is going crazy and causing organ failures, Dexamethasone (Immuno-suppressant steroid) has been found to be doing a fair job.
- Both the above medicines will prove to be beneficial in the management of this epidemic and help us re-open and go on with the economic/public activities, even when the cases will be rising everyday.
- October is still 3 months away and things will stabilize by then and we would have learnt how to carry on with life with this virus lingering around us.
- Do not stop studying thinking that there will be another postponement. It won't happen. Exam will be held on October 4th.
Favipiravir is for mild infection. Mild infection or asymptotic patients can also be treated by 1rs. Paracetamol or by simply doing nothing, just isolate yourself in your home for one week , drink warm water and you will recover on your own. It all depends own your immunity level. Similarly hydroxychloroquine is another option. As for dexamethasone, it is for severe patients i.e. to save few lives atleast who are in critical condition. It reduced mortality by 1/3 in clinical trials but then again all these are no game changer. Vaccine is the game changer which will contain the spread of virus which should come by this year end. Btw CBSE exams just got cancelled. No exam can be conducted until we have a vaccine or there is a drop in new cases.
Jan 8th is in the midst of worst phase of delhi winter. 2019 winter was particularly harsh. That said, going to a new place will be particularly difficult if covid is still around then (most likely).
Carrying a ton of books really should not be a problem. You hardly get any time between gs papers to read books, short notes is all you can look at. So it will just be the optional books/notes.
8th Jan won't be very harsh IMO. I am a Delhite. Temperature starts rising from Jan 10 onwards. Though 2019 winter was the coldest in the last 1-2 decades or so. It was bone chilling cold for atleast 2-3 weeks straight in December'19 i.e. from 10 Dec to around 1-2 Jan. But January saw temperature rise a bit. As i used to go to office daily in the early morning, i would take note of temperature everyday. Trust me if the mains was in 2nd/3rd/4th week of December then we could have problem bcoz from what have I seen Delhi gets super cold during that time. But then also, it depends on other climatic factors as the last time when I felt most cold was in 2014. The last 5 years were warmer years when even in December we hardly felt any cold. It was moderately cold. I saw people hanging around in t shirts even in December. So, Delhi is unpredictable. And ofcourse so is mains. And I would suggest don't make your decision solely based on temperature.
but what if the supposed victory here is at the cost of lives of your dear ones. I also thought that covid is being overhyped, but now my relatives have tested positive and we are awaiting my father's report. Covid is not something that is happening to some imaginary people anymore, it's here and it's knocking at our doors. You can't even imagine the level of anxiety and fear we are living in now. 20k..26k...35k....these are not mere statistics , clearly an increasing number of people are getting sick and there's no guarantee that your number wont come. And when it comes the biggest worry is not about your own life but that of your parents and then this nagging feeling of helplessness for being useless and a burden in their time of need
Well said. Corona virus is real. And the frustration, panic and fear associated with it is also real. Cases are expected to be 4 million by August end. I live in an containment zone where cases are increasing day by day. Corona is there in my neighborhood. Sometimes I feel it is only a matter of time before it catches us. Had I lived alone I would not have cared this much but I live with my family. So this Corona induced fear, anxiety and paranoia has totally pissed me off. Also, it is really a tough time to study.
Parkinson's law : "work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion"
Toh wahi test series, wahi revision, wahi incomplete portion abhi 4 months mein hoga jo pehle 1 month mein hota... Aur extra puch rahe ho?? Yehi sab toh extraa hai..😂
Well the UPSC has now even decided to hold Economic Service Examinations which were cancelled earlier and that too in the month of October. Do not really know how UPSC gonna handle all this in a single month.SSC also revised many exam dates to oct /nov .. Its a mass murder 😂 .. nyway .
They have to also show that they are working. Calendar banane mein kya jata hai 😂
As per this video, my hypothesis of case 2 is turning out to be true.
Prelims (as per my personal opinion) may happen in Dec 2020/Jan 2021 , because cases are most certainly going to drop significantly by then in most parts of India.
A good news for us this morning. Study hard 🙂
One more good news. Oxford vaccine has shown very promising result by producing strong immune response in the phase 1 n 2 trials. Stock prices have gone high. All eyes on this vaccine. And they have partnered with serum institute in Pune to develop billion doses. With this world can hope to resort back to its 'actual normal' by the end of this year.
Covid cases are falling in delhi drastically. I guess creating red zones helps a lot. Since last 2 month Arogya Setu used to show 10 cases in 500m and 100+ in 1 Km which is down to 5 and 70 now.
All states below Tropic of Cancer are facing the Covid burden now including Bihar.
Testing has been really aggressive in Delhi. Government is pushing hard for it. Healthcare workers are working actively doing door-to-door covid checks in my area. Plus, I think Delhi has the best health care infrastructure in the country with large no. of hospitals, health centres and workforce. No wonder why it has the best recovery rate too.
@Tyler Durden yes Dr Schultz.. He got selected in Gujarat pcs around 2 Yrs back.. Also India bhai was there for before xam news..he was deputy collector in Bihar 1 yr back.. Those threads were good.. One for revision and one for chit chat bakar.. Which used to be closed down regularly as it used to get offensive while blowing steamAlso mango dolly.. I always envied him( in positive way..) .. Means every year he used to get selected.. Every yr literally.. I think 6 or 7 times he got selected..and his guidance for pub ad was amazing..Also thread of wat u learnt after exam - it used to be best advise.. As used to be given before selection.. Like nandini (Bhatia) mam advise I still remember..Even newayn post I remember on geography books.. And his comment on wizard geo book.. Tat was before his selection.. He got 101 rank if I rember correctly.. Pizza is from that group time.. When actual help was provided via threads..
Yes I remember them and there used to be that take away thread after every prelims and mains.. a few more names I remember... Jonsnow, Jaime lanister, kachra, meri maut Ka tamasha, krk 😁
@pizzza Civil servants have liberty of expression through art, literature, acting but I particularly don't like Deepak Rawat making videos of his everyday work and posting it on YouTube. Though not mentioned in the code of conduct for civil servant, I think it's unethical to put videos of your daily work on social media platforms. Some of his videos are so fake/staged like in one of his video where he's stopping a bullet rider and charging him for not wearing helmet. Why he needs to film his day to day work (especially those which gets public attention) ? Is it just to show off ? And more over he has monetised his videos from which he is earning decent amount of money (not against someone earning money). His videos mostly are those which gets public attention like raiding Fair price shops, or scolding some employee or inspection of government hospital.
Yes in a way he is harassing local public with a view to earn name, fame and may be money through social media. What he does in his videos represents a false impression of civil services to the general public. Honest officers and those who are doing 'actual work' don't need a camera to showcase their work.
Today the UPSC notified Combined Medical Services Exam, with the date as 22nd October. Guess its full steam from now on. All the best!
Bro, giving the date of an exam and actually being able to conduct the exam are two very different things, even more so in the post covid19 scenario which calls for extra ordinary measures. Just a thought. Though I am not in favour of postponement either because the wait has been too long.
@Tyler Durden but does it matter in which order you read?
Yes it does. Filtering out important stuff first and doing that helps especially from exam point of view.
@Lbsnaa2021 Now I am curious my friend, Is there any exam where college attendence is verified?
Even colleges themselves don't verify semester attendance before taking exams of their students. So why on earth upsc would go to your college to see your attendance? #just joking 😁
Never thought that in 2020 we would be walking in space suits.
For a moment I thought I came back to a wrong thread. Is this the same old thread where we were discussing prelims Hoga ki nahi 😂
But I must say very impressive@redemption and @cat 👏👏
Just went to the old "discuss forum".
I was back to studying for prelims again, went to look for my revision threads for static and wpa scheduled animals. It says not accessible. I just wish i had backed up that data.
Not just that, there was so much of information, from crazyphoton's (gaurav agrawal) comments to yo yo choti singh's ethics thread. The amount of information contributed by everyone was what brought back people to that platform again and again.
Anyway, who am I to ask any of that, it belonged to forum.
With that old forum thrown into the dustbin, I feel like i've no more connection left with Forumias. Everything is gone. I'm just a newbie to this platform just like anyone else and I would rather be at a place where whatever I type/share is not deleted in the future.
I understand that you must have had genuine reasons to delete the old forum but i'm just expressing my thoughts.
@root Although i had not asked for the blue tick, I am very grateful that you guys provided it. It felt like that blue tick connected me with the old forum. Now that it's gone, I humbly request you to take away the blue tick and also delete my profile. Thank you, I shall humbly vacate this place. 🙏
@Samurai_jack The less we speak about the mainstream Tv media in India, the better.
+1
They have sold their souls in the name of TRP and propaganda they have to run. They have completely ignored the important issues in the country. Corona cases peaking at 65k daily. There were Assam & Bihar floods, hardly we saw any news on that. I will tell you what they are doing these days. All the anchors of mainstream media channels have become detectives (read Sherlock Holmes ) and they are trying to solve the Sushant S Rajput's suicide's mystery on their channels 24/7. Nothing against SSR but this is a bit too much. Well, can't question the government policies or show the government in a bad light?- No problem. But at least cover some important issues and problems faced by the common man. Media is supposed to be the fourth pillar of democracy. But our media is all about drama, sensationalism, propaganda or covering trivial news all the time.
No schools won't open from September

Chill bro. The sky won't come falling down if he meant to say gays also, would it?
Well, I don't know about others but I am straight my man 😂😁
@Katy_Singh Bhai trend dekho jee/neet postponement everyone is fighting but no single voice for nda
Nation comes first. No propaganda. No hue and cry. We wanna be officers in the military. We will go and give the exam. NDA comrades setting an example. I have huge respect for the armed forces. 🇮🇳
HOw would they ensure do gaz ki duri when people line up to enter the school/center? Plus compulsory frisking takes place. One person frisks all.
It makes no sense at all.
Yes that frisking guy could be the super spreader. Yesterday I heard on the news that govt. is making some population control plan. I think this is it! We are in danger
Bhai october tak almost sabh normal ho jaye ga....u go and see road in delhi ...full jampacked hai....still we are living in illusion exam will be postponed...it will not ....I can say because I am the part of admin
Bhai I am from Delhi only. Yes it's true Delhites are back to normal life as if nothing happened. And Dilli-wale don't give a shit about anything. They are like ..kaunsa Corona? kaikaa Corona??, Delhi se hun bc😂
Now NEET-JEE petition will be heard on 17th August instead of 14th. Also I feel(may go wrong) that NEET and JEE will be postponed due to sustained campaign by the aspirants.
Yes their campaign is getting stronger. It is trending on twitter too. A few media channels also reported their issue. So the pressure is building up day by day on MHRD. Still a 50-50 chance I believe.
Well this doesn't look like social distancing though.
"The reason so many people misunderstand so many issues is not that these issues are so complex, but that people do not want a factual or analytical explanation that leaves them emotionally unsatisfied. They want villains to hate and heroes to cheer - and they don't want explanations that do not give them that."
--Thomas Sowell.
On that note logging out of here.
All the Best to all. :)
P.S. Last parting message got people worked up so drafting again as goodbyes are important. (Kinda old school) :D
You didn't say anything wrong. Good decision btw. All the very best to you.
SSR committed suicide. Media declared he was killed. Now, SC passed the judgement to conduct CBI enquiry for SSR because the court thought he deserved justice. But, when the case case concerning health and safety of 25 lakh students came to SC, it dismissed the case in just 4 minutes. Don't know what to say here
Mauke ka faayda uthana koi hum aspirants se seekhe! :P
Bro Jee-Neet row mein kitno ne apni roti sekh li.. YouTube mein koi bhi video bana raha h jee neet postpone se related aur ek din thousands of followers mil rahe h usko... Toh upsc ki postpone brigade kaha peeche rahegi.. beheti Ganga mein haath dho lo..
Greta Thurnberg has now called for postponemnt of jee neet 😂😂
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ndtv.com/india-news/jee-neet-2020-i-stand-with-them-greta-thunberg-backs-demand-to-defer-jee-neet-exams-2284959%3famp=1&akamai-rum=off
Wouldn't be surprised if the next tweet against the conduct of jee neet is from the White House.
This all issue has been transformed into the political one and now it's opposition vs government issue rather than public interests. If government do postpone exams then opposition would claim credit for it which obviously government don't want to happen. It will be like bowing down to opposition pressure rather than public one. Government should have postponed the exams earlier so it would have avoided the politicisation of the issue. By looking at the track record of this government, it hardly had paid any heed to public opinion. NDA exams scheduled for 6-7 September are also not postponed.no strategy would have worked with this government..there are lot of vested interests involved in it. also this government has become too egoistic, and this will be its undoing. i mean not even acknowledging the people who voted them to power is arrogance on a different level. 2019 thumping mandate has gotten into their heads.
Look at the way horse trading of MLAs has happened in the last 2-3 years. Junta Ka verdict, election mandate, they don't give a shit about anything..just desperate for power.
@vikkyanthro28607 There is no guarantee that you or me will be alive tomorrow too my friend . Life is fragile and unpredictable. The only thing that will protect is rational hope.I think you will be familiar of the Russian roulette (else kindly Google it (thanks for googling)) . The scenario now is like this CORONA is a game of optional biased russian roulette . Optional as in if you take utmost precaution u will have less turns with the pistol which has only one loaded bullet. Conducting exam in the time of CORONA is like using a Gatling gun with just couple of empty slots in the magazine.Vaccination (according to popular scientific which was cautious at the starting about the vaccination has turned largely positive now.We don't even have to wait for the vaccination the middle path would be to have a downward curveof corona virus bringing it down to atlest sub 10k cases per day all over India .
Conducting exam now is and will be a blood bath .
The only absolute truth in this world is Death. Corona virus has come to take us to the only truth of life. 😂
✌️Peace
@balwintejas With all due respect to your views, the title of the thread itself suggests that it is for random speculations by random people. 'Serious' aspirants won't even come to such a thread as no doubt would get cleared here. There are other relevant threads for that. Secondly, suggesting people to go and study by commenting on this thread is itself an oxymoron. Or maybe, just maybe, you were more offended by the criticism of the government rather than anything else.

Truth has been spoken
Hello aspirant ‘boys’ of Rajinder nagar!
Just wondering why there are such pieces of shit around here that don’t allow a woman to walk in peace in broad daylight!! Some of you even leer at us as neighbours !! The lockdown period and right down to mid august was such a serene time, because there were fewer shitty ‘boys’ around. Why are so many of you sexual harassers? Genuine question!
Here is my analysis. Most of you are upper caste Hindi belt engineers from private colleges. That kind of means that you have no notion of real equality and democracy.
If you are one of those then please, just masturbate to some of the vile free porn you watch and drown yourselves in your own cum.
Sorry that I am so forthright. I admit I am furious. But really, just go away.
Just woke up to this. That's harsh😭
You can try this. It has good reviews

@Rj_Khan How many questions were roughly asked from Comprehension form 2015-19 out of 80 ?
Tewatia’s lesson for Oct-4 —>even if you can’t get the first 20 questions stay in the game.
Ah, human triumph over adversity is so moving! So inspiring.
Yeah you're right!. If we also remember Ben Stokes heroics in the last over at the world cup final last year, especially that overthrow (act of god or hand of god✋ or whatever you wanna call it). So these incidents tell us that miracles do happen and fortune favours the brave provided you don't give up until the last moment and stay in the game.
This post is too dedicated to its moto....was initially started 5 months back to discuss prelims postponement and now with 3 days remaining for Prelims still discussing the same.
😎😎😎
This thread is still serving its purpose to the very last day. We discussed here not only the postponement of CSE but other exams as well like nda, jee neet, clat etc. I think this is the greatest exam postponement threads in the history of exam postponement threads. 😂 Plus, all the truths of universe and wisdom can be found here. If one is so inclined and can go through the 300 odd pages of this thread, he can find so much information over a wide variety of issues. He will ultimately be enlightened😀
@skandaguptait is a lottery indeed. People who have prepared properly for an year or two should get back to a job and prepare alongside. This is nomore a paper of test of knowledge but luck. I left for the US after 4 failed attempts 2 yrs back and resumed preparation once I got established professionally.i thought 2018’s was the toughest but this ppr just exceeded that level too. Would be appearing for one last time next yr but with no expectations and no pressures of sitting at home unemployed fortunately.
Bro just wanna ask. You returned from US to prepare for this exam particulary or because of any other reason? I am asking this because I am myself considering migrating to Canada through their PR process, actually I have been thinking about this for many years now but this upsc thing is holding me back. Actually I have always been in two minds and chose upsc over Canada but this betrayal by upsc every time makes me want to reconsider my decision. I quit my job for this and regret now as you also said it it is not a test of knowledge anymore and after 25 odd questions (which you can find it standard books) rest is a game of wild guesses in which some will succeed and some will not which is obvious. So there is no need to beat yourself up over this.
@KratosOfPUBG then why are people working abroad in mncs are quitting job n preparing? Can't get this thing
That's bcoz they can't settle in some countries. It's difficult to get permanent residence there and it is a long process, they are mostly on a work visa, though this may not be the sole reason but a major one. But it easier to settle and get PR in countries like Canada and Australia. And trust me suddenly there is migrant boom in canada especially of people from sub-continent.
13 years wait for Indians to get a green card in USA, not sure about canada. You get green card if your company retains you for 13 years. But they generally do.
Bro it's very easy in Canada. if you apply via PR process, you get PR on arrival. Meaning you will get PR even before landing in Canada. Based on that PR you can look for jobs based on your skill or even stay in Canada as long as you want. And after 3 years you become a Canadian citizen enjoying all the benefits like free healthcare and pension. Such easy is the process there. There is another route too that is via study visa, it just takes little longer than PR process but overall very easy compared to other countries. Why do you think there is a craze for Canada in Punjab?😀
For India sri lanka ,
That statement is right.
Trade Performance
Bilateral trade between India and Sri Lanka has increased by around 9 times between 2000-01 and 2018-19. Total trade between the two countries was US$ 6.2 billion in 2018-19, out of which India’s exports to Sri Lanka were US$ 4.7billion and imports were US$ 1.5 billion. Although India has always had a trade surplus with Sri Lanka, the gas has widened since 2008-09
Also .. why i marked this as true :
Also .. Ye vikramsinghe india aaya the modi ji se paisa maangne to usne .. Trade deficit ko lekar modi se baat ki thi. Us waqt Business standard ki news me bhi iska jikar thaa... but .. I am not able to find that news.
However, Uske basis pe hi .. I marked 1 as true.
Coaching waale going ao much technical nazi on few questions .. and Not being nazi on few questions (wirless transmission of elec .. ko sahi maan ke baitha hai sankar .. ... pata nahi bachho kya churan bechta hoga ye )
True bro Coaching wallas have no proper knowledge. There are just going by the tricks which they have developed seeing past upsc papers and many senior aspirants know these tricks and they are available on YouTube too.
For instance, trick#1 steady increase or steady decrease mark it wrong bcoz there cannot be any steady increase/decrease in any thing.
Trick #2 in S&T questions containing many general statements, mark them all correct bcoz that has been the trend. And many coaching wala are selling these tricks on youtube now. But this trick proved successful yesterday as many questions of S&T had all statements correct and D as answers in them. So knowledge takes a backseat here in this kind of paper. Coaching wallas trying to become a guru while they themselves have no proper knowledge and just relying on tricks. Actually it's not their fault either, nature of the exam has been reduced to speculating and wild guessing by the paper setter
hardworking human predicts the cutoff of gen to be 93+-2....he has been pretty accurate since past few years... although 93 seems far fetched 98 looks safe assuming you have not counted doubtful questions
He tricks worked big time this time especially in S&T. I watched his videos related to tricks to solve prelims questions. And he repeatedly said that, in S&T questions if you are not sure about any particular statement being right or not, assume all statements are correct mark D as answer. And now it turns out that almost all the S&T questions had D answer (all statements correct) bcoz that's how the question paper setter has been framing the q. paper for past few years. I became skeptical in the exam and thought that D couldn't be the answer for this many questions and dearly paid the price for this blunder.
@Tyler Durden Bina tukkebazike is paper me 45-50 questions ke upar surety ke saathsolve karna mushkil tha, for a well prepared student. Uske baad calulated risk aur tukka hi tha. Aur agar cut off 95 ke upar jaata hai matlab tukka public jeet rahi hai.
It's true. People attempt more questions these days thinking that net gain will be positive. And every option has 25% chance of being correct. If you eliminate 1 or 2 options, that probability even increases. And if you mark 1 answer correct by fluke also, it will make up for 3 incorrect answers marks-wise. People like this trade off. It's like gambling. From what I have seen, people who loose in this process are mostly the ones who attempt less.
This is just a humble post requesting everyone to resist themadness.
Before I get to the actual point, I agree that the exam shattered the hopes of many honest UPSC aspirants. I think we deserved it since we all are responsible for making it a mindless game. Regarding the question paper, I don't have anything to say, since there is no definite syllabus it will always be unpredictable. But I am concerned about how/what we have become in the process.
Unfortunately, including myself, I found the average aspirant wasn't peaceful in the forums/channels for the last couple of months (or more?).
I think it's time we should realize how we are part of this spectacular comedy by
- Glorifying the preparation and spending years of our time.
You might be tempted to say that with years of preparation, we become more sane, intellectual, or rational. Maybe that's true but what about the anxiety, fear, and the funny speculations. I don't think these raw emotions ever subside. Pride is pointless to even if it about gaining knowledge. Many of us have to get out of this limbo.
- Complicating the process by relying on compilations, every topper's gyaan, and too many mocks.
- Leaving the job.
Remember that you are bound to be tensed and make mistakes when the livelihood/future depends only on one thing i.e., an exam with an unpredictable process which involves prelims demanding smart elimination, mains with manual correction, and interviews which can't be 100% unbiased.
Can we make this journey sweet and breezy? Probably yes, by
- Not leaving the jobs.
- Preparing for 2-4hours only but consistently for a year.
- Not glorifying the preparation process.
- Realizing that it is just an exam that recruits only 1000 members/year. Attempting other recruiting exams as well if interested.
- Not forgetting that the final exam also wants you to be cool as a cucumber.
Obviously, the above won't apply if you are an extra-ordinary mind and can stay peaceful even during an apocalypse. This is for average aspirants like me.
Finally, keep it simple silly.
PS: This would be my final post/ranting in the forum. Thanks to all the beautiful souls who have been helping others to be cheerful/peaceful or sharing notes/important-topics/analysis, I sincerely bow to all of them for making this world a better place.
@jordan_belfortCoaching centres and Mock test series condition us to think in a certain way, which causes us to make silly mistakes and Blunders in Prelims. That is why Read standard textbooks, with NCERT's as base. They will orient aspirants to think/understand the topics in a certain way, which UPSC wants to evaluate through exams.

One of my friends also gave the pre casually, he is not even a civil services aspirant nor he is planning to prepare for this exam in future. And he hasn't even seen the cover of laxmikant or spectrum or studied anything for this exam, so to speak. He gave the exam just to get the feel of it and for fun. After the exam I asked him how much you are getting, he said 70 marks after attempting close to 100 questions. I asked him how did he do it. He said by common sense, logic, and blind guesses. So it's true, it is possible to get good score by tukke baaji also especially in this paper coz current affairs portion was drastically reduced this time, it is difficult to guess in current affairs questions if you haven't studied them. The scope of tukkebaji and guessmastergiri is more in general science type of questions, biology, AI n Bio tech questions.
I was just reading this discussion on Reddit. Thought of sharing it here. These guys may not be upsc aspirants but their views do make sense.
