For people getting good scores from the keys, can you please tell what in your opinion works for this type of a paper? What worked for you according to the analysis till now? Which section got you marks which other people found absurd and what helped in it. Would be very grateful.@Patootie @Koro-Sensei and others.
I made lots of stupid ass mistakes in polity..Jesus. Don't do such thing. Around 6-7 questions pure silly mistakes. Else I would be comfortably above 100.
Hi everyone, I guess I’m the only one who couldn’t complete the paper on time. I spent the entire break crying (and announcing to my fam that I’ve fucked up my attempt). All the dreams of writing mains in my first attempt have gone to the drain.Set C - The starting questions not only ate my time, basically ruined my momentum for the rest of the paper.I switched (though too late) and solved second half which was very doable for me. Came back to first half but it was already late. Couldn’t fill the omr for economy and some map questions which were high accuracy areas. To sum up it could attempt only 73 and never got the chance to fill my OMR for the next 20-25. I always attempt and have been attempting closer to 95 in my mocks, but today I simply lost on time.Ive just calculated my marks and I’m scoring 85-87 from BYJU. Maybe if I’d marked as much as I had planned I would have had a chance. I imagined a countless ways how this way would turn out to be but not THIS. So much focus on knowledge accumulation while what ruined the game for me was THOSE 2 HOURS.No option but to wait months for another chance.@Villanelle See understand one thing.....AND THIS for every candidate hereNever Ever NEVER neverfill your OMR after marking all the questions, do it then and there only. Please, I repeat Please.A story: In 2012, a very bright student went to IIT-JEE exam. She was brilliant. In these papers you are always sure that you will get good marks. But she did the same mistake, didn't fill OMR then and there and started filling it later.RESULT :She skipped one question by mistake and then all the bubbles below got Fucked up. She came to know it when she was about to fill the last answer (no bubbles left). She wasted her one year.
Was it you?
» show previous quotes as strange as it might seem this could well be on minds of people in UPSC. That is they want to frustrate candidates so much that candidates start moving for demanding CSAT to be made evaluatory. All this anyway is the direct repercussion of CSAT being obstructed.
They should make one GS paper that includes includes maths, comprehension and reasoning as well. 150 questions in 2.5-3 hours. That's all.
Shankar IAS key paper-1
Shit. 2-3 more wrong with this key.
I can't believe I am getting 114.57 by Forum key and 112 by Shankar (Rukmabai question). Wild guesses got correct. But now I am scared af about CSAT.
Nice. Is that more than what you scored last year?
Almost 50 marks more. Last year I got 72.I can't believe I am getting 114.57 by Forum key and 112 by Shankar (Rukmabai question). Wild guesses got correct. But now I am scared af about CSAT.Nice. Is that more than what you scored last year?
That's amazing. Cutoffs will surely shoot up. Many are too afraid to tally with answer keys. I am sure in a day or two, we will see many scoring 110+ comfortably. Not sure why everyone is expecting cutoff to remain same let alone decrease.
After I was out of the exam, I thought I had made many random guesses and was really scared about it. I had set B so my second half was a disaster. 1st part was actually quite easy I felt. I managed to get 38 correct out of 50. It was the second half which got me. Ultimately it's the basics and revision and re-revision is what forms the foundation of the score is what I felt after seeing my score.Almost 50 marks more. What a coincidence! I got Set B too. Really worried about csat paper.
Getting 80 from Career Launcher CSAT Key..How reliable it is?

Got it. How accurate are their keys for paper 2, generally?
#HonestOpinion
Wrote prelims for the third time, mains once. Couldn't qualify in 2018, qualified in 2019 by a whisker (probably 98 or 100.66 would have been my score). Getting around 114 from forum's and topper's keys. Imo, paper was more or less on the same level as last year albeit a bit easier to guess especially the SnT section (assuming the answers provided by institutes are correct). My take on cut-off -->should probably remain along the same lines as last year. May even go higher around 100-101. Remember last time, the cut off dropped due to CSAT being on the tougher side (and hence the ensuing furore in the aftermath). This time no such factor. Let's see.
Hot take.
I am SC category, but I am still scoring poorly. Less than the 2018/2019 cutoff for my category. Not even 90. Just too many stupid mistakes. I mean easily 5-6 blunders. Could have been 55-56 questions correct, but I am stuck with 50-51. Maybe if lucky, I may get another 1-2 questions right with upsc key, but still what a poor performance. I am so furious for those silly polity mistakes. Ugh.
Forum key - assuming simulator has made mistake in 1 question (58 set B) compared to their actual answer key - 80.66
Shankar - 83.33
Baba - 83.33
Disaster. Fuck myself. I should jump off a bridge or something.
Last year's SC cut-off was 82, previous year's was 84, vs gen cat cut-off of 98 in both years. It's not unreasonable to expect the SC cut-off to drop a a couple points assuming the general cut-off drops (which definitely seems likely).
SC/ST cut-offs tend to be more sensitive to unconventional, interpretation-heavy papers like this one was.
Upsc hasn't released the cutoffs for 2019, so how can you be sure that it was 82? What if they release the cutoff and it turns out to be above the expectations. Upsc 2019 key differed from coaching keys by a good 9-11 questions!!!!

Bhai, I know they have released the key, but where have they revealed the cutoff?

Clearly, I have been living under a rock.
You guys are right. Well...let's see..upsc keys could sway either way.
Not cleared prelims
Advice me should I join a test series for mains
And when should for prelims I should join
You should prepare notes for static topics of mains. Notes for keywords given in the syllabus. All of them. Test series I don't thinks is really necessary.
Prelims test series you can join though. Probably start around end Jan or Feb start. I got 81 last time and this time I was getting 114.5 from vision key. Don't know how much I actually ended up getting, but I cleared pre. I have been reading the comments and despite what most of the people here would have you believe, the trick to prelims is still the same. Stick to your sources(source should be comprehensive) and those monthly or yearly compilations for CA. And revise so many times that even looking at it a day before prelims just makes you want to throw it away. And then revise once more. Pay attention to the word 'not' and its contexts in the compilations.
@AureliusM Hey! How to make notes for every word in the static GS syllabus with only 2 months remaining? I need your guidance in this as I am very scared of mains. Please help out.
