@Philooptional  you're perfectly right , it's not world history question
5.2k views

I could be wrong

But my assumption that it's not world history Qn rather it's more oriented towards Post independence or Modern India is based on the following factors

1) Firstly I have History as my Optional subject ,so writing question on French, German or Italian unification is a default choice if there's any mention of word "Nationalism" which was not mentioned in this Qn

2) Secondly in the question ,the word "states" 'S' was not in capital which is pre-requisite if we're talking about Nation State like France , Germany etc

3) Thirdly the word "continuous ongoing process" is used in question to refer to the events that's been still going on to the events of statehood demands in India, in the context of world there's little to no reorganization going on ,only thing that was in vogue atleast till 90s was decolonisation that's a different aspect altogether

4) Lastly "administrative Reorganisation" is used more likely for Internal classification inside a country ,so it clearly indicates it is asking about provincial reorganization within a country and UPSC unlikely to ask about internal classification of any other country except India

Hindi is not my mother tongue ,so I didn't check the Hindi translation ,if that brings more clarity ,someone pls either add to or refute my assumption

Second  attempt ,Second Mains

Last time ,my intention was to complete the papers without any delay and in that process I compromised quality but finished around 10 min prior to schedule

With marks in 690s , optional being my weak part of preparation ,I tried focussing on improving scores

Coming to 2022 mains ,I felt essays questions were not cranky vis-a-vis 2021 ,so that's some solace

Gs1 was quite analytic and diagram heavy geography questions ,so took time initially  which in turn affected globalisation, secularism Qns at the end so had to rush through

Gs2 & GS3 , I did work on some quality metrics this time , both papers were fine as far as weird questionnaire goes , hopefully I have done some justice

GS4 , meant to demolish physical and mental resolve , could only write decent answers in first 3 case studies,rest I had to rush through , I couldn't even follow the sub division pattern in last two cases,now fearing that this could nullify even the basics stuff I have wrote for those two cases

Optional (History) , relatively easier than last year but it will depend on the evaluation metrics and my presentation appeal

In nutshell, neither comfortable nor disastrous

Now back to routine life after an adventurous week of exam

As usual , a good learning experience

Good luck fellow aspirants

To say that ethics paper of 2022 was innovative or creative in any sense is not just injustice to dedicated aspirants but to the calibre of UPSC itself

Just as aspirants are capable of doing better things,UPSC question setters are also able to set creative question and have proven the same in previous years

Constructive criticism wrt UPSC should be encouraged ,the last thing expected out of a future Bureaucrat would be a "Yes master"

I mentioned what each color means based on general idea that red being severe and green being mild

Also mentioned that warning for place depends how close it lies to the trajectory of cyclone etc

Finally drew a map showing cyclone prone areas.

At th end mentioned that Color coding reaches wider populace easily

I just made these points based on vague idea abt the topic but I did rush up at the social question at end

Net gains matter at end ,so let's not lose hope

Ppl who wrote Scientific man victory over romantic man question ,if possible pls share the dimensions

I wrote on the following lines:

Started with curiosity quote ,defined Scientific and romantic terms

Then started saying how first humans worshipped thunder etc later on became evolved with ideas of fire and wheel in Neolithic revolution and mentioned it as first victory

Continued with ancient period Scientific achievements of charaka , Aryabhatta etc

Then came to Medieval age ,church vs Science Darwin galileo heresy etc as Second victory

Then finally something about Modern age : Industrial revolution, enlightenment

A small para on scientific woman ,how they broke traditional roles

Penultimate para Balancing view by saying EQ is as much important as IQ etc

In conclusion ended with a MLK Jr quote , ethical and sustainable science as way forward

 Major Cons :

underlined over excessively ruining presentation at the end

Structure could have been arranged better'

@Kenshein  🙁

Even I feel disturbed to hear they could give such low marks in History Optional paper 2 which is not a subjective paper like essay ,

Hopefully it was not a question choice combination related error, one of the online peers made that mistake

hopefully everything turns out well this time 🤞

@RegistaniOonth 😶😶😶

I did something similar due to time paucity and could score around 112 ,not the ideal score but for basic content and poor Historiography , it's fine

For 2022 I worked on quality addition with historiography and quotes for paper 2 ,now I fear for doing that😅

@Kenshein yeah

2021 mains ,first time gt 120,112

This time I have put some effort which I lacked previously for optional,

Last time my performance in maps was not  good,2022 paper looks relatively good , 🤞

History optional

paper 1 :Qns 2,6,8

Paper 2: Qns 3,4,6

Maps : around 16 identified correct with good description ,

Three Qns most likely wrong

wrote Sannati instead of kanganahalli for ashoka statue , Gupta coin hoard I wrote Tamralipti and for the Metal sculpture hoard I wrote Lohanipur first although  added Sultanganj in description atlast

IMO

Ancient was bit more analytic than previous year

Medieval the art based question were bit factual demanding

Modern History : Post independence Qns pattern was bit different

World history : compulsory Qns complex

Earlier I had chosen world over modern and Ancient over Medieval ,this time I have switched the choices

Anyone found correlation between FLT mains mocks and actual exam scores?

For me, it's +/-10 variation between mock FL tests and actual exams based on my experience in 2021 mains

@Kenshein True

I was searching for ways to evaluate my  performance in Mains22, realised it's pointless exercise and best is to watch discussion videos and note if any important points missed

Anyone here who couldn't complete ethics paper ?

I never leave questions blank ,so tried to write atleast some basic terms

I was able to write some basic terms for around 30-40 marks (20 in a case + 2*10m ) but not sure if it yields anything more than 20% of marks of the Qn

Hindsight : I should have optimally utilised time for GS4, never faced this much of time crunch in ethics mocks
