Mr_wayne here from the old Bakar days
Hi Mr_Wayne, nice to talk again...yeah migrated to EU and back, (Yeh Jo Des Hai Tera:-)
Hmmm nice to see you guys together 😉
Lol, I used to address people as yaara then :-, Qwerty sounds familiar too...
Right now i am feeling utterly clueless. I am unmoored. I was happy eating samosa with chutney and suddenly my father started quizzing me on rivers. Dhauli meets ganga where, Which tributary joins at rudraprayag etc etc. As soon as he asks me something it seems something in me goes missing. He shouted at me a lot, saying stuff like "you don't study that's why you don't succeed" "You are useless in all aspects, right now you should stand with your head bowed and you are crying like this. You have an attitude problem."
I am thinking about two options. Either I should run away or I should die. I know I sound melodramatic as hell but I just can't take it anymore. I don't have any way out. I am not smart enough or I don't work hard enough I don't even know anymore. I have saved some 30-35k and I am genuinely thinking of running somewhere, eating a lot have fun and then go die somewhere quiet in a way that won't bother anyone. I don't think I have anything to give to this world anyway. I am sorry for dumping all of this here, I know this is not the place for it. Everyone here has their own problems and are fighting them. I know nobody wants to hear me whine. Goodbye. This is my second and last comment on forum. I don't what i will do for now but I am done with all
You dont know stories of people half a decade back who were in far worser situations despite a good background. My story being one and things got worse even after changing directions! But i stood still and recovered slowly from negativity and failure! Some people will want to hear you out, yes it may not be the right place, but no thread is greater than humanity! So please relax, and see to it that happiness is a state of mind!
As far as parental support is concerned, even educated parents will not understand the difficulty level and the level of competition! You can never make them understand, i bet! and in India you cannot do without them either. My one cent here is play smart with them and never let their words and attitude bother you! Also kindly think you are not at all alone. For you present state of mind, having some Gratitude can help. How? Read on...
Given a birth, you were born as the gifted species, human...and also in a middle class which is able to offer you food/ education (considering millions who dream about education and a second time food in a day is a distant dream for the BPL) So now you see how happy you should be in comparison! If your happiness is determined by being in 0.1 percent in a lot, you are already one...then its just that the thought process that doesn't help us!
There are multiple avenues to excel, I know its not easy to get motivation when you are invested in to the process, and the emotional investment is the hardest to break! But still, if there are 50,000 serious aspirant it will take 50 years to fill them all! So knowing the numbers it is wise to reduce risks along the way! Please ping me should you feel like and see Diwali is around, of the 30K, how about getting some new clothes and crackers (if I may suggest:-)
@sleeplessnights89 samjho learning new in market but It helped meDisclaimer not promoting itBut idea of test series is to make you learn elimination and application of knowledgeBut most of the test series are playing with weird current affairsSamjho learning is affordable,simple and gives Bette insights into your preparation level
Thanks, this being my 5th prelim, already cleared 3/4 prelims (2013,14,16...15 i lost my 1 mark)....I put in like 3 months and i still remember stuff after 4 years gap!...made some blunders but I am at 80+- (obc), Paper felt sinister in the exam hall:- ( I mean its no longer like you study and get an edge), so I was wondering how to play in the new field incase i attempt again!
Thanks, Best Wishes to you as well!
@Qwertie I found csat tougher this year …last year attempted 45 questions and got 112.5 and this year again attempted 45 questions got 99.xx
Almost same case. 44 to 42
+1 44 attempts in 2 hours:-
I've heard last year too people were talking about how tough the prelims paper 1 was, and speculated cutoff to be 90 plus minus 2. But in the end, it was on a higher side (if we consider 1-2 qns were removed). So how true are these discussions and predictions by the institutes.
Also, are people really seeing a drop of 15-20 marks as compared to their last year's marks?
I am so confused what to believe and what not to. Are there people who are scoring really good marks and keeping silence? (I hope this isn't true
)
Obviously things will be a bit clear once the result is out. But can someone with a little experience give his/her views on this?
For your second point, i suppose both are True! Some ppl are scoring 15 to 20 marks lesser (as per this thread) and some are easily scoring 100+ (as per poll)

100 according to coaching keys.last year everyone was scoring beyond 100 but cutoff was 92.only those who get above 85 are participating in polls.its unreliable
oh I see, i too wish a lower cut off, gone are the days one can surely say in or out
@sleeplessnights89 just popped in to say hi,looks like you have returned the same year as neo. Good to have you back.
Thank you dodo, coincidence as hell:-, my pleasure!
@oopsie as much as i do not wish to comment on the merit of the examination process, i definitely feel the exam setters have botched up a bit given so many interpretations/opinions to so many questions prevailing even a week after the examination.I understand UPSC is supreme, but how could they legitimately claim that granite & schist do not form black soil when evidence to the contrary seems to clearly exist.
Also since the question was asked about the weathering of which rock would lead to formation of black soil of India so I mean why cant be the granite and schist erosion can be attributed for the formation of black soil.
fissured volcanic rock is the best option out of all.for curiosity u could search about it but there is no chance it would change in upsc key.
I forgot about it but i think all those above rocks r formed from metamorphosis of volcanic rocks.is not it?
Afaik, Basalt is a volcanic rock, Granite is a plutonic rock...both are igneous rocks, Basalt being extrusive, Granite intrusive.....Granite converts into Gneiss and combines with Schist...leading to black soil in Tamil Nadu....the deccan traps Black soil is mostly Basalt, indeed a volcanic rock....but the fissure word is what held me back!

Spent minimum 2 minutes to eliminate One out of 2 ... Hard choice.. Fortune
favors the bold!

in most of the qstns i felt the same issue.almost in every qstn one could eliminate 2 options but paper was designed to make u choose the wrong one among those two.it was a nightmare.i dont even want to think about that dark day lol.morons should stop making guess master,short trick videos fooling gullible aspirants.
happens all the time for me 1942 (I marked Cripps instead of Quit India), religious lyrics(i marked BGT, one would assume MKG to be secular), Bethune "Female" school, Tughluq, Phosphorus/Sulphur, water (i marked oxide of H2 but dipolar)....avoidable mistakes?! could decide our chances! but let's hope future papers will be clear!
yes but we cant avoid them cmptly,could minimise it though . only option left for us is to be crystal clear with facts and concepts and be calm and carefree in exam hall to get rid of fear and avoid overthinking.i had this idea to travel to coorg or ooty before pre for relaxation.i shld have done it.it would only become tougher as time goes on.certainly this year paper was set to eliminate guessing,probably with a psychologist guidance.lots of thinking has gone into designing options.
nice point, paper could be designed for making mistakes! for the rest of your analysis...couldn't agree more!
Yes ,u r right but that haunts me still.thats why I blabber here and also cause I want this thread to be alive.i often reminisce about how I could have avoided those wrong choices.then I curse myself abt lack of revision,thinking those who pass r ones who prepared enough to make it even with those silly mistakes.
reminisce in a way still trying to be happy:- I was at A2B for lunch after gs1, was washing my hands and Gowalia Tank came to my mind (1942 is wrong!) and the table had a bit of spill of fruit juice...guess what Triclosan is wrong for fruit preservative....and on....hits and misses, revisions makes me sick, so I never do:- but i too feel bad for a haughty approach! but honestly we could seldom pinpoint an approach that will takes us through, earlier used to be the case for mains and interview, now it is creeping into prelims, i feel....
Temperature of the flame can be thought of as not high and low flame in your gas stove...please see the link below
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_burner
and now tell whether it matters?
@sleeplessnights89 No, i meant there seems to be good enough chances of result getting declared tomorrow... going by their track record, they have got the prelims and mains result date bang on last year...
that's what I inferred from reading your original post, G translate at times creates confusions!
@sleeplessnights89 are u looking for translator as a backup job with failing experiences in upsc.?
i remember when I went to live in MN, for an year, i wanted half sugar tea and google translate would tell me aadha cheeni, and the tea seller will give wierd looks,lol translator job bhi achha hai, but with Google!!

its good for fun, but still 'failing experience' is too much if a word is to be used, i went up to interview in 2015 and left for Master's in CS from a reputed institution (top 100 in the world, ranked better than IITs!)...didn't take up jobs abroad for personal reasons!......failed to notice the connotation in which you have meant, so felt like replying again!
@rawhull rofl for the diagram:-, still thanks for the doc!
@bhuvanamalar1015412 @Strugglehard safeguard of liberty!
@sleeplessnights89ye bhi doubtful hai kya?
nahi bhai, D sounds good but as usual, i had a different take, some discussion, best warranted at a later date...for now its safe:-
@sleeplessnights89may i know your stake ? ... No debate
you mean my marks? or answer for that question?
@sleeplessnights89ur stake on Q?
I put C after thinking about Indira Gandhi->Emergency->no election->tyranny->elected govt! still couldn't negate D as well!
Ab itni debate ho hi gai hai to koi "Westerlies" Vale ques pe bhi prakash daliye?? in Temperate region do westerlies have impact on ocean temp or it is because of ocean current???
Option a or c which one??
I have marked D, because influence of ocean currents not accounted, plus only winds cannot create that impact, but all coaching gave C
main bhi D mark kar diya!

What was your logic?
iss par logic kuch nahi hai bhai, sounded familiar from past Shankar's Geography tests! so just marked, but in reverse:-(
@Qwertie thanks Bhai, you are deserving as well:-
@Rahulsa acc to me, 85 is a very probable score:-
@D503 that sounds great, thanks...coincidentally thought on similar lines for modern India and just grabbed Sumit Sarkar from one corner of the book shelf:-
@rawhull My college is nearer to Goa 😂😂
always a dream to live in the Western side of Western ghats, lush green and scenic na?
@kohliwag That's pure Bliss man:-
always a dream to live in the Western side of Western ghats, lush green and scenic na?
Absolutely. And our college is the only one in India to have a private beach . Missing that life 🙌🏻
Surathkal? Had been there once. Its an awesome campus
Yep 🙌🏻
Pleasantly surprised to find alumni from your alma mater. Wasn't expecting this while scrolling through this feed xDD :')))
found a nice vid!
they will be forced to choose Jhelum in the end as a compromise. I saw this coming. Go Jhelum
both river qs were difficult this time!
@Musafir25 @shashi sorry, pls tell me number of people who will write ifos mains
@sleeplessnights89 CSP 2021 ki bhi bta hi dijiye... lge hath
86 for General:-
@sleeplessnights89 CSP 2021 ki bhi bta hi dijiye... lge hath86 for General:-
108 of IFoS se 86 general..Bhai gajab marks drop consider liya aapne :|
ifos is a scientific estimate, csp is a psychological estimate:-
Hmm
Long story short - IFoS cutoff based on what will happen and CS cutoff based on what I want to be! :P
haan bhai, first is spot on, second is what will make ppl happy:-
Refer to this official Document of UPSC. It lays down the procedure for evaluation of Mains QCA booklets.Is upsc mains copy checked by a single evaluator or different experts evaluate different sections?
Read Question number 55 onwards.
https://upsc.gov.in/sites/default/files/ExamBrFAQs_03062019_Engl_0_2.pdf
So one examiner checks the whole copy. Wonder if the model answer arrived by them is just a simple para containg the essence of the question and anyone who writes around that essence gets the marks regardless of no. Of points written or pictures drawn .
this could decide the raw marks as mentioned in the pdf, extra points could be rewarded, that's when we see relatively better and top scores
@Capedcrusader1 then how so many toppers this year are from classroom coaching program of vision and vajiram. Rank 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 10, etc.
Your forgetting the ratio of failures 😕. These toppers are negligible percentage when compared to failures of these institutes
according to this Quora page there were 12000 students 2017 accommodated in 24 batches in Vajiram!
first you read monthly current affairs, then make notes out of it, then you attend curreant affairs classes and make notes, then you read mains 365 and make notes, then you attend test series and make notes.And if you have PSIR then you also join the yearly crash course and make even more notes. Where is the time to study, to learn to articulate? At the end of 4-5 years you only have a pile of notes to show.@Capedcrusader1khel khela hai is bar UPSC ne... sari prelims tricks ke sath... jo market me thi.... these tricks/methods/70 days rev plan/ etc are making aspirant's life difficult...
I doubt if these youngsters who are getting in in their first attempts do this much of note making and value addition. Their approach must be very simple , the approach being followed by others is not sustainable. And maybe upsc too is moving away from this resource intense approach which is reflected in low weightage given to current affairs in recent years in both pre and mains. Due to the abundance of coachings, test series, current affairs expert, it seems as if UPSC has become a game of how much you can splurge. Should people who dont have money to join a 20k test series for GS, 20k for optional, 20k for current affairs, plus rent every year simply give up on upsc?Share your thoughts.
I remember doing all this for 2016 attempt to improve GS marks! I subscribed to Byjus current affairs, vision GS test series in MN center, vision model answers and elaborate current affairs, Chokkalingam current affairs plus spending 12K on rent in Mukherjee Nagar:-(, 3K for electricity bill plus other expenses (total 25 to 30K) but the improvement was not big enough! But there are other ends as well, i remember reading in forum after mains 2020 result, there are people who wrote 120 tests and still coudn't make it, bad luck or we still miss something when it comes to approach of a topper! more thoughts and insights are welcome...

I was one of them 😂🤣
arey wah kohliwag:-
Writing 120 tests or 12 tests does not matter. In any paper grip over basics matters the most. In any paper 35 to 40 are known questions. How easily someone sails through prelims depends upon number of correct attempts from these questions. In rest questions role of luck becomes significant.
nice point for prelims perspective bhai, but this discussion is for mains test series (that 120 tests bhi for mains gs), share your opinion for mains bhai:-
@CouchPotato in IRS?
@sleeplessnights89 ya commerce optional ?
lol...ya CA Inter/ Final:-
@Salwal seems so:-
@sleeplessnights89 agle baar ye sab material bhi add kar denge coaching waale ... :P
I can't wait to learn sports from abcd, cricket esp:-
always true! and that kabhi kabhi should be frequent in these tensed times🤘🏼🤘🏼
