- A potential peril of adopting Genetically Modified Crops: In those areas of India dependent only on rainfall, there has been a direct correspondence between adoption of Bt.Cotton and farmer suicides because this crop requires large amounts of water for irrigation.
- Today is World Yoga Day: The idea of International Day of Yoga had been mooted by the Indian Prime Minister at the United Nations General Assembly. The Ministry of Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) is the nodal authority handling this event in India.

- Tool to curb gold import: Soverign Gold Bonds (SGBs) are issued by the RBI, and banks, non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) and post offices will be able to collect money and redeem the bonds on behalf of the government. This is part of a larger strategy by the govt to utilise India’s massive stock of physical gold, and convert demand for gold into demand for paper money.
